Bears nation took Collette and Weiss for granted last year, both of those guys are 10x better than any goalie they have now JV included.Goldfishdude wrote:No... Zappa has been practiced with them this week, but he's not the answer, and neither is Junior - he played Tuesday - his first game back in a month, and he got a shut out, but he's not where he should be health wise to compete at that level...BodyShots wrote:GFD, Is there a JV goalie ready to take over the reins?

I know I will say it again.... "A win is a win" and as WBL fans, we need to take it.
First off... give credit to Park for scratching and clawing and for the howling good effort...
But it's time to be realistic Bear fans. How many times have I come on this forum and posted that WBL will need to score 4 goals a game in order to win?? So, the offensive end is coming around.
The past two games have seen 38 shots and 5 goals Tuesday and 7 goals on 39 shots tonite. That's what needs to be done against inferior opponents.
What is inexcusable is to give up 26 shots vs a non-senior, first-year, inexperienced 3-7 East Ridge and to give up 30 shots versus 2-7-1 Park.
I don't need to be at the game to know that when these two things happen against, what should be, weaker opponents, I can look at the stats and determine....
1) Defensive zone coverage is crappy
2) The D-men in the offensive zone pinch too much and get caught in too deep resulting in breakaways and multiple odd-man rushes... and guys are too lazy to backcheck.
3) Untimely and bad penalties
4) Getting out-hit... out-muscled..
How do you correct things and send the right messages????EDIT UPDATE.
Jordan was pulled from nets @ 12:00 left in 3rd when the score went 5-4.
Shots were 39-30 WBL...
WBL 0-5 on PP, Park was 2-6 on PP
BEARS
Wahlin 1 G 4 A
Birkinbine 3 G 1 A
Wolter 2 G
Dehnert 1 G
Pasma and Jansen 2 A
PARK
Goals from:
Dougherty, Quebodeaux, Handwerk, Vogelgesang and Schabacker

I'm just gonna add onto this post from here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Park's Brandon Handwerk scores to make it 2-2
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wolter makes it 3-2 WBL.
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE CRAPPIN' ME!!!
2-2????? I am calling the WBL bus company and telling the bus driver to not get to the rink until midnight, and those guys are gonna skate until midnight..
PULL YOUR HEAD OUT, BEARS!!! LET'S GO!! DON'T MAKE ME DRIVE BACK TO THE RINK AND STEP BEHIND THE BENCH!!

This was definitely one of the most entertaining game threads I've read in a while...sorry it came at the expense of the WBL faithful...

Karl....
I laugh half the time when I do this stuff!! It's the old sports writer in me that likes to ruffle feathers - to create controversy - to sell newspapers, and to get people to read this Forum... The more input.. the better..
I DO get an occasional parent from WBL that will read what I say, approach me, and, I think they respect that I say what I say, because most are afraid to speak up in fear it affects their own kid.
I do this for the entertainment and shock value... the players know I truly care about them, but they also know they ain't getting a free ride from Goldfishdude!!! I don't call a spade a diamond...
I call a spade a spade..
defined as by Wikipedia:
To "call a spade a spade" is to speak honestly and directly about a topic, specifically topics that others may avoid speaking about due to their sensitivity or embarrassing nature.
Now... to call a diamond and a diamond.
There are many fine hockey players in this state, but juniors Wahlin and Birkinbine are Elite I players for a reason... they are damn good.
It's too hard to follow the NHL these days, so I can't compare today's stars, but in terms of HS players, watching their line, and how those two play together is something else.
Wahlin plays at the HS level like Denis Savard did for the Black Hawks... His feet allow him to turn in directions and cuts and spins that most guys can't even attempt, with hands and playmaking ability that sometimes just makes you say, "Wow!"... and Birkinbine snipes the puck like Mike Bossy and Dino Ciccarelli did back in the day..
In fact, there are times (whether it is Wolter or Hauswirth teamed up) it's like watching the old North Stars line of Broten the playmaker, Ciccarelli the goal scorer, and Tommy McCarthy getting the leftovers.

Park played really well against this team. Some missed calls, were made by the refs. #8 Jordan jeske had 2 breakaways in which he wept swept off his feet from behind and a blatant offsides the was not called led to a goal for white bear, i believe their 5th goal. White Bear still edged away with this one. next time....
