Great Hands, Great Speed, Great Character, Someone in a previous post said he would be one of the Gophers best players as a soph, the tribune player of the year.
Something doesnt add up. He is on pace to have 6 points in full USHL season. Not getting PP time but he is that good? Come on, he is on the worst team in the USHL and is the lowest scoring forward for guys who play every night. In my book if you're not on the PP you're not one of the top 6 forward talent wise. I know different coaches use different types of players but it's a general rule of thumb.
He is lucky he was traded to the worst team in the league because it looks like he might have trouble making the roster on a better team.
Int Falls played a horrible schedule last year and like I thought it hurt roseau not playing anyone good all year, maybe it hurt Yuoso too making such a big jump from Tier II high school hockey to Tier I juniors.
Your right its a huge step espescially from Class A to the USHL. Some Class A teams like Marshall, Hermantown, Hibbing play a stronger schedule and that helps those kids. The speed of the game increases, you have to make quicker decisions. The physical game picks up a lot. Your head better be up. Most of these kids could use 2 years in the USHL. My mind gos back to Guyer and Sertich who did not in my mind spend near enough time there and it hurt them. If both those 2 would have done 2 full years there they would of had awesome Gopher Careers. They both had good Gopher careers. They both only did a little USHL time partial seasons. I will stand by what I said with Youso as he will adapt. Why? Great breakaway speed that is hard to find pure skater. Nice shot and super hands. By the time he is a Gopher sophomore I do believe he will be a big piece of there puzzle. I also want to say this the US development team gets these kids ready faster aka Schroeder, Fairchild etc. But I really admire the parents who let there kids finish there High School careers at there home schools. Its so hard on the parents and the kids the decisions they have to make. Note: A couple of kids and theres more who finished there H.S careers at home doing well at D1 Jack Connolly and Jared Festler. I realize Marshall is like a AA school but Little Falls is not. Lastly kudos to Chris Connolly (Boston University) Jacks brother who I believe did do at least 2 years in the USHL on his big goal and assist in last nights win over BC. Hes having a fine freshman year. I,m from Two Harbors and have followed Corey Carlsons career at Vermont (2 plus USHL yrs). It really pleases me to see all the kids from the Northland and Iron Range on D1 Rosters. Schmidt, LeBlanc, Huttel, Bordson, T Johnson, Carlson and quite a few more and more coming.

Not sure about standouts, but here we go:
Rob Bordson  Scott Kozlak, Brandon Johnson. At least there's hope for Jack Connolly  Help me out if there's more...
Lastly I want to say this. It pleases me to no end to see the kids coming out of the Northland and Iron Range Schools making D1 Rosters. I don,t care what school they come from its just nice to see. I drove from Two Harbors to IFalls last year just to see Jake Youso play. It was worth the trip and I was treated great. I saw Blais at the game and one of the grandparents of one of the players gave me some walleye to take home. I spent a lot of time at the Marshall Arena and some at the Decc, Cloquet, Hermantown, Superior. Grand Rapids, Hibbing Arenas as well. Why? I just love good hockey and it makes long winters go better for me.

actually Chris only played one year in the ushl, before that he spent two years in the NAHL, after his second year he was contemplating ust playing for a DIII school as he had been cut by two other ushl teams, but stuck it out and ended up with a full ride, give the kid a ton of credit, most kids would have given up at that point
enjoy this post while it lasts....
