22-15. Shouldn't have been that close. GR controlled 3/4 of the game, made 1 mistake which lead to a field goal making it 15-14 with just over 5 min. left. Billy Martinetto took over from there with some great runs, then Geisler completed his only pass of the night on the 2pt conversion.

Gr vs Hermantown will be a good one. Looking for the Indians upset. I think they played the tougher schedule which will pay off this time of year. After Hermantown, I think the ship may sink though.

Johnson plays Chisago on Saturday and Como plays Mahtomedi.

If they both win on Saturday and meet up next Friday, I might be willing to wager a gift certificate for Diva's Lounge on Rice St. I'll let you know!

I didn't see how Johnson did, but Como Park got crushed by Mahtomedi on Saturday so they're out. Maybe we'll have to put a little something on the line next year when Como and Johnson meet during the regular season Govs.

The Govs took it to Chisago in the first half, then handed it over in the 2nd. They lost something like 44-26 or something like that.

Eden Prairie gets another 10-0 team on Friday when they play Edina... you'd probably have to be nuts to take the Hornets, but they have played well. Who knows...

It will be EP and CDH at the Dome for the 'ship. Be there for the geame.

The only yawning that will occurr will be as a result result of what goes on before that.

Speaking of football there is a lot of rumbling about the new format and the fact that the quarterfinal games will be played on artificial turf. The Outstate schools don't have access to turf as easily, which by the way irks me that the Minneapolis public schools AD complains about not having AstroTurf like other schools, if that's Minneapolis' biggest budget concern as far as athletics goes I have no sympathy for them. Part of football is homefield advantage and the new format gives Cretin and others an edge. In my area Winona Cotter plays on turf and is built to play there, without a doubt they'd been state title contenders if they played the whole playoffs on turf, they're that fast and that skilled, but they didn't, they had to go on the road on sod and got pummeled. Football is the only sport where the surface of the playing field changes and it makes a huge difference in how the game is played. Attendance will be way down at these quarterfinal games, I think the MSHSL botched this one.

Turf or Sod, Eden Prairie and Cretin are the best teams but I'd like to see Cretin on a soggy wet field in Owatonna vs the sterilty of Griffin stadium. the game would at least be interesting then.

No offense but I have not seen a single section game that was close with Owatonna. I played for EV and I know we pummelled them terribly just about every single section opener and EP beat us every single year to date. There is no way EP and Owatonna would be interesting.

East goes to state in football for the first time. Unbelievable.

I was curious as to how East and Hermantown ended up as AAAA schools, considering East's enrollment is twice Hermantown's. According to the MSHSL, the range for AAAA is 623-1245. I had no idea it was that wide a range.

Well, the CDH Raiders are in the AAAAA tournament and going up against the big , fat cat, behemouth, financial black hole, need another referendum for a tax hike public schools. (Did I mention Godless?)

Yup, da Radahs play up with the big boys unlike the Dulutherans( f/k/a the always classey Greyhounds. )

CDH will have to go through Lakeville, probably Wayzata, and then the Bear Path gang to win the trophy.....assuming those schools are still open after Tuesdays elections.

Goldy has opined that CDH has 'the edge' and attributes it to playing surface.

I think they have 'the edge' allright but its a spiritual one from way above the playing surface, if you catch my drift.
