Keep in mind he was a 10th grader. Considering that, he stepped up and was a solid contributor. The kid has upside.
I'd like to see him in the same zipcode as his defensemen once in a while.
You bring up a good point. Team D is a part of the game he seems to be missing.

Defensively, he has a lot of work to do, but find a player with more speed and don't forget, he was way up there in points this past season

Didn't he play on the same line with a decent player named Nick Larson? Not to take anything away from his accomplishments. Playing on a line with a talented D 1 type doesn't hurt.

What is the process for making these teams? Are players recommended by their coaches and then they try-out?

Yep.

For 15's, the youth hockey districts handle it. The youth hockey coaches nominate players from their teams. The district then holds a tryout and picks the players. They have some cross district seeding games and then get seeded into two brackets for the Spring Festival. From there, MN Hockey picks the top 102 players to attend the summer camp at SCSU.

For 16 and 17's, High School coaches nominate players for the section team tryout, blah-blah-blah.............

Not sure if he tried out. Was not on the list of advance 16 final 51.

He had a tough year personally. He's a quality player. I bet he will bounce back at 17. Certainly wish him well.
