Even great goalies sometimes let the first shot of the game in, you need to realize that the whole game is still ahead of you. It's true that some people cant get over it and to be a solid goalie you need to have a short term memory. And him not having any confidence is rediculous. He's a varsity starting goalie, hes been sucessful before he should have confidence. i think he cant handle playing so much and he really misses having another solid goalie to rotate with. He's not good enough to do it himself. When you start letting in 7 or 8 or 10 goals in a game, you shouldnt be considered a solid goalie, solid goalies usually can stop a little more than half of a teams shots.

I think george blanda will agree with me when I say that Smothers is a good goalie. He was at the SCC game, he saw what he can do. When you say he didnt step it up during these big games, that may be true. But the second time around for Mound he made 30 some saves and only allowed 1 goal in the victory. And SCC the second time around he made 38 saves and only allowed 2. Litchfeild he made 26 saves and allowed 1. And Lourdes he allowed 3 goals, plus eng, and made 37 saves in the loss. Delano he made 22 saves and allowed 2 in the victory. Sure the kid played bad against orono twice and mound and scc once. He's still a good goalie.

Not sure if he is a sure in for an all-conference award like the Holy Family followers predicted he would be.

Give up the smothers gibber jabber, and all this talk about HF, the saddest thing is is that theres not one person on there team that talks on this thing. And everyone on here is out to get them like they commited a crime or something. There not that bad there not that good who cares. So what if they only beat mound and tied scc, tying scc is a pretty big accomplishment, they are what, the 5th ranked team in the state. When you tie a ranked team or beat a ranked team that is saying something, (maybe going in the right direction) for starters. How bout we stop making threads about this team if all people are going to do is bash them, everytime someone(myself included) make a thread about an upcoming game for them it just turns into a big argument about how bad they are. Or the best is, is earls on steroids, or is smothers good, or erickson is the only thing they have. too answer your ?s, earls may in fact be on steroids. and yes smothers can be very good at times and very inconsistent at sometimes. And no erickson is not the only thing HF has. They have alot of talented skaters.

go2guy13 and getsome...yea i did let the first shot in on me on the Minnetonka game...and no im not a 3 time varsity starter...im a 3 time varsity back up...and no im not 3rd string either...Ian Wilson has yet to step onto the ice. Also being that Smothers is a 3rd year starter...wouldnt you think his senior year he could save more than 12 shots...just a thought...goalies do have their off nights...and one more thing...first shot on me...on my first varsity start goal...yea weak sauce shot...not gonna lie it was pathetic...but at least i can keep my team in a game if they need me...and plus im not Taylor Peterson the starting goalie...so give me a break...a starter should do better than a backup...a 60% save percentage is horrible...not saying Smothers is bad...but last night wasnt good by him...so get off my back, im not ripping on him...im stating facts and stats.

Just on a note about my last post...Smothers is a good goalie...no doubt about it...but being a Senior...and a Captain...he needs to step it up if he wants to win games...he can step it up in big games...ive seen him do it...goalies can either pump the team up with huge saves...or bring the team down with horrible goals...thats what happend on Saturday...you cant expect your team to rally in front of a goalie who didnt believe in himself that night...no critisicsm on Smothers but its the truth...hes a good goalie but he cant get down on himself after something like that
