2008 Presidential election
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
I don't know if anyone else here listens to Matt Drudge but he had a montage on last Sunday of Democrats like Biden, Kerry, Pelosi, etc., all praising Bill Clinton for lobbing a few cruise missles at Saddam. All these Dems made a point in their soundbites to acknowledge that Saddam was trying to get or already had WMD's and how he must be stopped. Now since hindsight is 20/20 it appears we were all duped, Dems, Reps, and the middle. Funny thing was if Clinton wasn't bogged down in Bosnia would he have done anything more than a few cruise missles? The Dems', Biden in particular, were doing some serious sabre rattleing then. Now all of a sudden they're peace niks?
Just a hunch but anyone who was in Federal office in those years has zero chance of being elected, there's just too many pro war votes on the record for them to run away from. To take it a step further I'm not sure anyone in Federal office now will win either, too much hypocracy on the books. Kerry learned the "I voted for it before I was against it" routine will be a death nail.

Hypocricy?
"to much hypocrisy on the books",.....please explain.

If the election was tomorrow I would say
Hillary- no, she is too liberal for my tastes
Barack- an interesting choice that I do not know to much about, but seems promising.
Edwards- Another interesting candidate but one which I think will not find too much success.
Biden- Funny but the foot-in-mouth comments detract most voters. Not to mention some of his ideas seem idealistic at best.
McCain- Currently the strongest looking candidate. Seems to be the right man for the job now.
The black horse- http://www.walken2008.com/politics.html
Richardson, Dodd, Pawlenty,Brownback,Gingrich- Tough to gain momentum and will likely flop

Need more information.
Our President is an idiot? How about some more information, some examples maybe,.....or is it just because Nuet says it and Blue Breeze agrees,.......or because someone edited a cute magazine cover.
Maybe you guys can get your heads together with Goldy, and come up with some examples, or should we just believe you guys?
Our country leadership is just like MN HS hockey,.....we can't have the 1970's State tournaments anymore,......just like we can't have the great leadership of 1992 to 2000. Hang it there we'll get through this.

Actually I just like the picture. I think Bush has done some good things along with his share of bad things.Knowlzee wrote:Our President is an idiot? President Bush
I can't believe you guys couldn't come come up with any substantiation to your inferences about our President,....you had the whole weekend to research, too. Busy weekend, with all the hockey games, and Superbowl etc.,.....many excuses.
Goldy, any examples of "hypocrisy" by our President,....or has he pretty much set out to do, what he has said he would do (despite the personal/party politics first approach by most on the above poll list)?
Neut, no examples of our President being an "idiot",.....maybe he is smarter than we may realize (and the news media gives him credit for)?
Blue Breeze, didn't name any "bad things" things he has done,....or were you just shooting the breeze?
The wise old George Blanda, with his 26 years experience in the NFL, gets it regarding our "National debt",.....the USA is probably not going to go bankrupt, is it?
Hang in there people, only two more years, then we can get back to the female version of the leadership of 1992 to 2000,......won't that be special.
Thank GOD, there is a GOD. We always have that going for us.

I'm well aware that no amount of facts could ever persuade you from deviating from the republican side of the ticket knowles. I happen to believe the National debt is a crisis, while you seem to believe "we'll just print more". 8.6 trillion and rising. $29,000 each for all 300 million of us.Knowlzee wrote: Neut, no examples of our President being an "idiot",.....maybe he is smarter than we may realize (and the news media gives him credit for)?

You even still believe the war in Iraq is about fighting terrorism, even though its been proven otherwise. The war was a fiasco from the time this administration created the facts to justify invasion.
From "Mission accomplished" to "Your doing a great job Brownie" this guy will go down in history as the absolute worst.
And of course you chant the Conservative mantra of "Blame the Liberal Media" for every news report thats not flattering to your party.
Your a perfect example of the SHEEP that enables "Roveism".

Re: President Bush
I apologize if I didn't spend my weekend compiling a list of right's and wrong's that this administration has done so far during leadership to argue on a high school hockey message board, I guess I just have different priorities.Knowlzee wrote:I can't believe you guys couldn't come come up with any substantiation to your inferences about our President,....you had the whole weekend to research, too. I'm with Neut, while the national debt is not the most pressing issue at this very instant, money is a finite resource, at some point somebody is going to have to carry the burden for the cost. If this administration ruins social security for future generations, it will go down as a monumental failure.
Blaming the media for villainizing Bush doesn't accomplish anything.
I realize you're just going to dismiss Neut and I's comments and come back with your own omniscience, because obviously the Clinton years were the darkest of any in the history of mankind.
Well now, there you go again.
I like W. I think he is a straight shooter and I like his direct and to the point approach to things.
He isnt as sharp as Clinton but he isnt as sleazy either.
His policies in Iraq are open for discussion but he is the first guy we have had in a while who will say: "Maybe we made some mistakes, lets talk about it. "
We had to do DNA tests to get the truth out of Hillary's guy.
I think it is a little incredulous of the Kerry crowd to call W an idiot when they weren't even smart enough to beat him.

The whole Iraq situation was one big mistake as well, regardless of whether or not Iraq had WMD's. A poorly planned "liberation" with very little realistic thought of how the country would turn out after a new government is installed. Could Bush have done a better job? Yes. Could Kerry have done a better job than Bush fixing the problems? I doubt it, because the problems seem to be nigh unfixable.
Point being: Bush has done bad, Kerry probably wouldn't have done better-which is the unfortunate side of American govenment.

Aint that the truth. Dubya "owned up" to mistakes because absolutely nobody was listening to his "stay the course" rhetoric.packerboy wrote: Givng a Democratic controlled Congress credit for anything is dicey at best.
I always laugh when I hear Bush supporters defend him by saying "He ain't Clinton", or "Would be worse with Kerry".

True nobody made him stand up and say lets talk about it, and my wording was probably not the best, but the impetus was created. Had republicans remained in control of congress do you think he might have emphasized "Stay the course." I really can't say for sure, but I don't think he'd have been as open to new ideas if congress hadn't changed.
A democratically controlled congress implies the current will of the people, which includes a current position on the Iraqi conflict- so I would never give a specific party credit (including the dems) for the presidents opening to new ideas-- but I instead give credit more to the physical manifestation of the people's will.
Right now however, the will of the people seems horribly misguided, the current options for Iraq being proposed by Democrats are full of faulty logic and misplaced idealism.
I said it during the past 2 presidential elections and I am saying it now:
"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in groups."

Saddam Saddam Saddam

Saddam was a loose cannon but maybe we just replaced him with what will turn ou to be something worse.
So what a yah do? Nothing?
Rock and a hard place.
The world is full of Saddams. Several countries, including North Korea, are just as bad or worse.
Why Saddam?
You may not have liked Kerry, but he was right. If we had went full bore into Afganistan after Bin Laden, with all the troops and money spent, we would have had Bin Laden by now.
You guys keep chiding Clinton for cheating on his wife. He lied, and it hurt his family.
Bush lied, and we have lost many troops and millions of dollars.
Using bravado, as he did, to go into a war with no plan for an end, is the most foolish thing I've ever seen a president do.
As a matter of fact, some of you keep touting him as a leader.
I said this before his first election and I'll say it again...
This regime is not full of leaders
It is full of MIS-LEADERS, of which they are great at.
That will be this Bush Administrations place in history
THE GREAT MIS-LEADERS
besided a stained dress, Clinton left behind Bosnia where he used genocide for his reasoning to insert the US.
Saddam was a far worse dictator where genocide was on the top of his priority list every morning and crossed off with daily regularity.
between 1/2 million to 1.3 million Iraq citizens killed under Saddam for being of a certain religous faction. That alone is reason enough for me.
There can not be good in the world until evil is eliminated. Evil does not negotiate, evil deceives people in to a false sense of security or from doing the courageous acts required to destroy evil.
The shortsightedness was
1) there has never been peace in the middle east and never will be
2) not realizing the vacum created by Sadam's absence, but until a solid foundation of democracy is put in place the unrest will continue to be great. We must help fill that vacum right now so evil does not fill the vacum

One reason for "why Saddam" might be because he invaded Kuwait. Did you think he had reformed or something?
Clinton was busy staining Momica's dress when he should have been fighting terrorists who killed thousands of innocent people on 9/11.
I dont much give a bleep about him cheating on his wife but I do care about that.
