FPP
If its not broke why fix it. Lets see, blue pucks, coaches with helmets,Fair play points, coaching certificates. Have we really made the game better? I saw a penalty the other day called on a kid for lifting a kids stick and taking the puck. My coaches manuel says thats called a lift the stick check. Then there is the stick press which is now a hook or hold. Looks like USA hockey will have to spend thousands of dollars to rewrite all of the coaches manuels. All coaches will have to recertify because the old way of coaching is now the wrong way.

fair play
remember Lou Nanne is a Joke, just listen to him during state high school, he is old school,, the best way to handle the fair play point is to GET RID OF IT........ PUCK IN THE NET = 1 on the score board, most goals win, pretty simple , untill MN Hockey gets big bucks to to try to change the game.. new rules of enforcement, were long over due

We didn't need more rules, they (refs) just needed to do a better job calling the old rules. But USA Hockey and MN. hockey once again go to the extreme then a year or two later will back off and realize they just spent a buttload of money to try and make the game better but failed.
If USA hockey honestly wanted to make hockey better get rid of the nation development program and deligate some of that money to the youth associations for outdoor rink development (artificial outdoor rinks).
You don't need a building, just ice, you make it they will come.

As a ref I know we have the puck dead 25% of each hour or more and in District 2 where my kid plays they have 11 minute stop time periods. He plays 11 minutes, touches the puck for about one minute of it, makes three or four passes gets 2 or 3 shots hits a couple of kids and the games over. The new rules promote skill and skills are built in practices. The 94 AAA team I coach off season is heavy with skill development with 1/2 our ice is practice ice. We have good content and the kids have fun with it. They get lots of touches, skating, and hitting in every hour. Lets focus on development not the games. Skills are not created through wins and losses or fair play points.
So what you are saying is that in order for our kids to develop hockey skills, we have to skate on a AAA summer club? Bottom line is some kids just want to PLAY HOCKEY. Fair play points and the new rules put kids on the bench not on the ice. The funny thing I see happening is all this time and money people are spending on development, development, development is getting you where? So he can maybe play High School hockey? Let kids develop a LOVE for the game and a desire to go work on thier own and you have created a hockey player. Otherwise you are just creating a bunch of practice robots. How many coaches are taking time out to have the kids practice these Lacrosse type shots? I bet none of you are because you can't do it yourself and wouldn't want your players doing it in a game anyways. But the kids are working hard on their own learning it and trying it in practice because it's fun and cool. Not because they are going to get a scholarship from doing it. Where and when do they do that "skill development"? at HOME or at the OUTDOOR Rink. Some kids do more then just play hockey.

My comments were directed at how caught up in the fair play points some are getting. I agree that there is more to life than hockey and the same goes to finishing first or last in youth athletics. The benefits I see in playing hockey at the high school level are probably different than many. It's a better path than my kid going goth, joining the drug club, or becoming one of the thousands of obese children our country is producing each year. It's the work ethic that's gained through higher level youth athletics that will be needed in adult life that appeals to me most. I wish skills were developed in association hockey but it is a participation model and has its limitations because of that. The friendships that elude us in club hockey are the biggest reason we play off season but I will admit skill development is a big part of it. Its not for everyone but we have fun with it.

MN Hockey Voting
Question to GreyBeard and Elliot...
You talk about HEP being pushed through by the 'big wigs' as MN Hockey. The Directors of MNH, as opposed to the Officers, should be reading the ByLaws to see who really has the power. If the rules are followed as they are written, the officers do not have a vote!
