They're going to have to be a lot more than promising if they are going to get to the State Championship game, as you just predicted.Slammer wrote:Really bad loss for East... Howg played absolutely terrible and let in some soft goals..... Hedin came in and shut them out for the rest of the game. East did control most of the game though which I guess is promising.

I like making bold predictions..... Why not make that prediction when you're posting anonymously on a forum.east hockey wrote:They're going to have to be a lot more than promising if they are going to get to the State Championship game, as you just predicted.Slammer wrote:Really bad loss for East... DE could've "easily" won state the last 5 years.

My thoughts on East-Centennial:
The first period easily ranked among the worst periods I have ever seen an East team play. They gave up one goal less than 30 seconds in, and a shorty near the end. Howg was not on, they were out-hit and out-hustled, lost a defenseman to an injury, and the offense involved Phil Beaulieu trying to skate through three people. (To his credit, he did create the few half-chances they had that period.)
The second and third periods were an entirely different story. Hedin came in and made one huge save early on. They went to work, controlled play, and battled back. After it got to 3-2, they had some tantalizing chances to tie it up, including Marinac hitting a pipe with less than ten seconds left. They just dug themselves into too deep of a hole in the first. The power play needs some work (seems weird to say that about an East team), and they also took a stupid retaliation penalty with a few minutes left that neutralized a Centennial penalty for a shot after the whistle. Ah, the delights of watching a young and inexperienced team.
Credit Centennial for really coming to play in the first, and making a few adjustments that did just enough to disrupt East's comeback in the 2nd and 3rd. Gorowsky was a force on the first two goals. They're not a great team, but they're reasonably deep, and if a quality opponent gives them an opening, they're more than capable of grabbing it.

Prior Lake over Eagan 4-3 in OT. Prior Lake looks to be more skilled, though Eagan is a gritty team - blocked a ton of shots tonight.
I think both teams will do well this year. Lakers have several younger players logging a lot of minutes and will continue to get better and Eagan's syle of play and goalie play will keep them in games.

Grand Rapids scores an empty netter with just over a minute to go to take a 4-1 lead over Virginia.
EDIT: They score two more in the final 20 seconds to win by a 6-1 final.
Shots 40-27 Grand Rapids.

Let's not jump to conclusions, although you may be right, and let's give MG credit for a good third period. After 2 BSM had this game in hand 4-1. They actually played defense for two periods! Then they unleashed the hounds...the D rushed the puck and left forwards back a number of times, Ultimately leading to three unanswered goals! Early in the third, Naas missed a breakaway (badly) to make it 5-1, MG came right back down and scored. Numerous posts, open nets and shot opportunities not taken!!! So, the stars need to start playing like it!
With all the video taken at the game, you'd think someone would review and realize what works and what doesn't! Playing D works for this team, and frankly is necessary with young goaltenders. I bet Long feels better after watching the Fresh (name?) get left out hung to dry just as much as he did! First two periods goalie saw almost everything, third period...back door, back door, back door!
Top three forwards are non-existent on this team right now!

Yea, I read the Herald this morning.elliott70 wrote:3-2 with two minutes to go.TTpuckster wrote:EGF - 5

Final
EGF pp goal makes it 4-2.
ENG makes it 5 - 2.
Sounds like it was a very even game.
I will be at the game in January in Bemidji.
And, since EGF did beat Blaine, I believe I owe you one.

It was a strange game. First period even, with Eagan scoring right at the end on a power play back door one timer. Second period was all Lakers...Eagan couldn't do anything right and gave up a couple of bad rushes. Third period was exact opposite...I think that PL had 2 shots in 3rd.Laker Guy wrote:Prior Lake over Eagan 4-3 in OT. Cats were rolling 4 lines far more than usual, and the younger d got a whole lot of ice time. Forward lines have been juggled not just from game to game, but from one period to the next. I got to believe there was at least a few times when it was the first time that the 5 guys on the ice had played together in a game situation. Now, this isn't an excuse...it's an observation of something that is very different than how things have been for Eagan over past few years. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for line pairings to firm up.
How does the Fellows kid look?Laker Guy wrote:Prior Lake over Eagan 4-3 in OT. Prior Lake looks to be more skilled, though Eagan is a gritty team - blocked a ton of shots tonight.
