Somebody at the Star Tribune goofed up in their high school roundup this morning. For the Wayzata/Minnetonka and BSM/Irondale games they mentioned where the teams are currently ranked, except they used their boys' teams rankings instead of the girls:

And the upsets continue…

Cretin-Derham Hall 1, Roseville 0

Molly Callahan’s second period goal, on assists from Giselle Rogers and Rosie Pitera, was all Cretin-Derham Hall needed to upset No. 10AA ranked Roseville 1-0 at Highland Arena in St. Paul. Hildie Hoeschen stopped all of Roseville’s 26 shots for the shutout.

In our contest only Knight7 and Bighead predicted a CDH win, so they each gain one point on rest of us!

Still waiting on the Lakeville South/Eagan game, after which I will update this week’s standings…

And we have yet another upset, at least according to Minnesota-Scores.net:

Eagan 4, Lakeville South 3

Assuming the reported score is accurate, NONE of our contestants receive a point for this outcome, as everyone went with 14th ranked Lakeville South over unranked Eagan. But, as they say, that's why they play the game...you just never know.

So, this week is shaping up to be another low scoring affair. Going into this weekend's seven games, here is how we stand:

1. luckyEPDad - 5

2. Knight7 - 4
mnhockey3535 - 4
capitalpride - 4
fishfreak11 - 4
Bighead - 4

6. sinbin - 3
hockeyfan87 - 3

8. Eight with 2

17. One with 0 (late entry)

Four games this evening and the results are all in:

Breck 4, Dodge County 2
Grace Zumwinkle and Amanda Navratil each scored two goals to pace Breck to a 4-2 win over Dodge County. Kate Schipper contributed three assists and Jenna Brenneman stopped 29 of 31 Dodge County shots. Katie Robinson and Amanda Navratil scored for the Wildcats.

14 of 17 receive points for Breck’s win, and two – FlyingWarrior and Racki2016 – pick up a bonus point for nailing the score.

Andover 4, Armstong/Cooper 3
Andover came back from a two goal deficit, scoring the final three goals of the game, to beat Armstrong/Cooper at the New Hope Ice Arena. Sierra Langlie scored the winner on the power play for the Huskies with just 2:25 remaining. Andover’s Abbie Turpin scored two goals while both Rebecca Voltin and Mikayla Goodin had two assists. Emma Terres tallied two goals for Armstrong/Cooper. Shots on goal in this game were very even, with Armstong/Cooper holding a slight 36-33 edge.

13 of our contestants get a point each for favoring Andover to win, but no bonus points are awarded for the 4-3 result.

Buffalo 3, Orono 2 (OT)
Madi Jewell’s shorthanded goal at 4:35 of overtime capped a come-from-behind win for Buffalo at the Delano Sorts Center. Jewell also scored shorthanded with just under two minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime, and she assisted on Buffalo’s other goal in the first period, scored by Lindsay Roethke. Shots on goal favored Buffalo by a 34-23 margin.

Our panel was nearly unanimous in believing Buffalo would win. And 25% of those (4 of 16) predicted the 3-2 score to add the extra point: Silent But Deadly, Knight7, luckyEPDad and Bighead each get two!

Wayzata 4, Hopkins 4 (OT Tie)
The Wayzata Trojans and the Hopkins Royals battled to a 4-4 overtime tie in an important Lake Conference matchup at the Minnetonka Ice Arena. In an exciting finish at the end of regulation, Hopkins got goals from Grace Bizal and Nina Rodgers – both on the power play – in the last minute and a half to send the game to OT. Rodgers also added two assists for a three point night, while Carly Noble had a goal and an assist for the Trojans. For the game Hopkins outshot Wayzata 32-23.

Nobody forecasted that this game would end in a tie, so everyone gets zero points.

With three Saturday games to go this week, here are our standings:

1. luckyEPDad – 9

2. Knight7 – 8
Bighead – 8

4. capitalpride – 7

Two of today's three games have been posted as final:

Benilde-St. Margaret’s 5, Hill-Murray 2
Caitlin Reilly and Brittany Wheeler each scored two goals for No. 1AA Benilde-St. Margaret’s in their 5-2 win over #6AA Hill-Murray at Aldrich Arena. Reilly and Wheeler each also added an assist, and Kelly Pannek notched a goal and an assist. The Red Knights had 32 shots on goal compared to the Pioneers’ 19.

There were 3 perfect scores in addition to the 12 others who predicted a BSM win, vs. just two who favored the Pioneers. Getting the 5-2 score right were backspin, Bighead and ayhfan.

Lakeville North 8, Apple Valley 0
In one of our more lopsided “Big Games” of the season, No. 9AA ranked Lakeville North crushed Apple Valley on the Eagles’ home ice at the AV Sports Arena. Shots on goal, at 44-6, were equally one-sided. Top scorers for the Panthers were Alexis Joyce, who netted two goals and three assists; Taylor Flaherty with two goals; and Dani Sadek who added a goal and two assists. Cassie Alexander had to make just 6 saves for the shutout.

All 17 of our group forecasted a Lakeville North victory, but as you would expect nobody came close to guessing they would win by 8 goals.

Still no indication of the Edina/Minnetonka score. In the meantime we have a tight contest going, with Bighead taking over the lead:

1. Bighead – 11

2. Knight7 – 10
luckyEPDad – 10

4. fishfreak11 – 9

5. mnhockey3535 – 8
capitalpride – 8
Racki2016 – 8
sinbin – 8

9. FlyingWarrior – 7
MNHockeyFan – 7
hockeyfan87 – 7
Nordic – 7
36Guy – 7

14. Four with 6

Naturally, just after I posted the above, the last final suddenly appears:

Minnetonka 4, Edina 0

Hannah Ehresmann stopped all 19 shots she faced to backstop Minnetonka to a 4-0 win over Edina. Leading the scoring for Minnetonka was Diana Draayer with two goals, including the Skippers’ first which proved to be the game winner. Both
Sydney Baldwin and Laura Bowman had a goal and an assist, while Amy Petersen chipped in with two assists. The shot totals were very even but favored the Hornets slightly, 19 to 18.

Our group, by a 16-1 margin, saw Minnetonka coming out on top, but everyone thought it would be tighter contest.

Our Week 12 is now in the books, and congratulations are in order for Bighead who, on the strength of a final day push, came back to win it!

1. Bighead – 12

2. Knight7 – 11

3. luckyEPDad – 10
fishfreak11 – 10

5. mnhockey3535 – 9
capitalpride – 9
Racki2016 – 9
sinbin – 9

9. FlyingWarrior – 8
MNHockeyFan – 8
hockeyfan87 – 8
Nordic – 8
36Guy – 8

14. Four with 7
