He had like 1 goal and 6 assists for the whole year
He is a solid d, but not a Mr. Hockey Candidate
yeah probably not with so many other great players with a ton of points. just thought I'd throw out names though. And remember Mark Alt was a finalist with 12 points or something.

Erik Baskin-Tonka

Jake Randolph-Duluth East
Dom Toninato-Duluth East
AJ Michaelson-AV
Vince Pedrie-AV
Will Merchant-Eagan
Michael Zajac-Eagan
Eric Schurhamer-STA
Peter Krieger-STA
Miles Death-Wayzata
Bennie Walker-Edina
Judd Peterson-Duluth Marshall
Obviously Time will tell...
Seems odd that Kloos didn't make your list. I guess it's because he doesn't score enough (oh, wait, he led double "A" in scoring). Must be because he plays in a really weak conference (oh, wait, he outscored 4 people on your list from his conference by a minimum of 19 pts.). Must be he has no chance to excel at the next level (oh, wait, in 3 USHL games since the H.S. season ended he's on one of the top two lines and was the games #1 star with the G.W. goal against league-leading Green Bay).

Why isn't he on this list?
Just curious (maybe just an oversight).
Yeah obviously he is the frontrunner if he stayed. I just think he'll probably go..

Almost half way through the season now, not quite but close! I havent been able to watch much hockey live this year but I am sure others have. Anyone have some updates on who has a legitimate shot at it?
I'll take a stab at what the 10 finalists might be. In no particular order:
Kloos--Lakeville South
Randolph--Duluth East
Toninato--Duluth East
Peterson--Duluth Marshall
Opperman--Breck
Zajac--Eagan
Merchant--Eagan
Horn--Benilde
Steman--Maple Grove
Chapman--Burnsville
Here's a very quick view of the race in my mind...
F – Justin Kloos – Lakeville South – 55%
F – Jake Randolph – Duluth East – 12%
F – Judd Peterson – Duluth Marshall – 10%
F – Jared Thomas – Hermantown – 10%
F – Dom Toninato – Duluth East – 5%
F – Grant Opperman – Breck – 2%
D – Eric Schurhamer – St. Thomas – 2%
F – Dylan Steman – Maple Grove – 2%
F – Matt Pohlkamp – Brainerd – 1%
F – Josh Cisar – Moose Lake – 1%
Feel free to criticize it, there's probably stuff that I'd change if I took the time to really analyze it. I figure this is just a good starting point to renew the discussion.

this is the 10 i'd go with right now, about perfect order
Not sure that I'd have Kloos at number 1 at this point. But he definitely could be at the end of the year.
I think Baskin and Rothstein could definitely be included in the discussion.
If Kloos shouldn't be number 1 who should be? Maybe Randolph...although Kloos at this point has only played in 15 games and the rest of the top scorers in the state have played in at least 18. Yes, Randolph and East have certainly played the hardest schedule in the state, but at the same time he has A LOT more talent around him than Kloos. Kloos already has 50 pts in only 15 games, with not half the talent that some of the other front runners have.
It seems to be pretty wide open right now, Both Peterson and Thomas have made a strong case so far. Randolph's chances (fair or not) are probably reduced due to playing with Toninato. Kloos has been pretty much a mirror image of a year ago when it comes to scoring. I can't remember a year that had as many likely candidates that chose to leave. As deserving as any of the boys mentioned are this list could easily contain names like, Lucia, Skjei, Rielly, Michealson, Walker and several more. It will make for lively discussion but I'll say Thomas, as he likely has the most NHL attributes that the voters like.

If just the high school season is used to make the decision, Randolph's chances are greatly increased. If play outside the MSHSL is factored in Kloos would likely be the favorite. The difference in their Elite league performances is huge.

Right. Because he had a linemate that came close to matching his skill level in Guentzel (who by the way, in my opinion, is very underrated)...
Don't get me wrong, playing with Harvey doesn't hurt Kloos, but he is no Toninato.

That's kind of what I was thinking. The same goes for Baskin and Rothstein.
For my percentages, I basically started with Kloos at 55%, because if you gave me the option of betting on Kloos or 'the field', I'd take Kloos. The rest of them split the remaining 45%.
