minnscout wrote:Great win for SPLP. They have a couple talented forwards (2 elite league players) but as a team really never put it together until last night. SPLP had a game plan and stuck to it and got a career game from their goaltender. We will see how BSM reacts tomorrow night against Shattuck. It also shows you cannot just show up for the game you need to be preapred each and every night no matter who you are playing.
Standard excuse for an inexcusable loss. First pump up the crappy team and praise the average goalie. Then say why said crappy team is way better than everyone things, and finally pretend like they have a chance against an actual good team (SSM won 3-1).
Here's a more plausible explanation: BSM plays crappy teams all year and really isn't that good. We saw this in their EP game.
I agree with you on the excuses that have been dished out by minnscout. The truth is that Benilde is a decent team but the goaltending simply isn't there.
BSM is a good team but yes they always have lapses that take them out of the top. Example is edina when they had that second period outburst that put BSM away. This is put on the bsm goalies more though because both of them deal with the problem, that is when one goal goes in that wasn't that good, the team as a whole kind of quits and more go in. However, in the Shattuck game, Jecha played unbelievable. Maybe it was a lucky showing but i believe the team is realizing their problems and hopefully are improving on them, even though they lost against SSM. SLP may have just been that fire that BSM needed between them to compete with the top.
minnscout... your losing on this one. Sorry to let ya know.
BSM, for the most part, plays a strong schedule outside of there 6-8 bad league games. A schedule that includes SSM, Hill, Minnetonka, EP, Moorhead, Maple Grove, Elk River, Centenial, Duluth Marshall, Edina, St Cloud Tech, Osseo, AHA and Stillwater is not a weak schedule. All the teams in the state play weak teams at some point in the season. BSM has beat some real quality teams but has also lost a few (EP,Edina,SSM) which means they are like most of the top 10 teams and have as good a chance as anyone to go deep into the playoffs.
1. Saying BSM "quits" is just wrong.
This team came from behind to beat Minnetonka, Maple Grove and Holy Angels. In both the EP and Edina games, they came back and almost caught up.
2. "Always have lapses" is a big overstatement.
Two lapses this year: Edina and EP each had a second period burst.
Do you have any idea how good the SSM player are? It is foolish to claim a defensive lapse on goals by:
Tanner Sorenson (Mich State next year, National U18 team last year); Edward Doherty (BC next year, National U17 team last year) and
Nicholas Weberg (Norway National U20 team).
Here is a link to a goal Weberg scored against Russia in the World Juniors!

The problem with your argument is Elk River, Centennial, Duluth Marshall, St. Cloud Tech, Osseo, and Stillwater aren't much above average. Compared to other top teams in the state, it could only be described as a weak schedule.
STAR your logic then says HM is no good (lost to BSM, EP,Burnsville), Wayzata is no good (lost to Moorhead twice, Minnetonka, EP, Maple Grove tied Burnsville and EP), Eden Prarie is no good (lost to Edina twice, Eagan, Duluth East, Holy Angels).
Everyone knows this year is up in the air and there are a number of teams that could win State. To say that a team is bad because they do not win every game is rediculous.

No, you have to realize that Edina, Tonka, Bville, MG, and all those other teams you listed are way better than Centennial, Elk River, etc. Plus if you have simply been to a few games with these teams you would know who plays at the highest level in the state, and it's not BSM.
I have seen all those teams multiple times this season and the teams you mentioned are really good teams and BSM beat Maple Grove, Tonka, and HM so if shows that this season is up for grabs. After the last week, is BSM the best team, no but they can beat anyone and same with the other teams we are talking about.
Let's not attack BSM after a weak loss to a hot goaltender. BSM remains one of the elite teams in the state even after a fluky loss. If I'm a Red Knights fan I would much rather have them lose now then when it really counts in March. Besse, Steinhauser, Horn, and Labosky are 4 of the top forwards in the state, and when you factor in Daly on defense that's even better. The goaltending will work itself out but I believe that both Jecha and Quale are solid goalies. We all know that it's tough for a goalie, even elite goalie, to have a great game EVERY game. I still like Benildes chances in sections and at state.
