The pace of both the Czech/Russia and US/Canada games were fantastic. This US game was better than any playoff game I can recall with the intensity and the star power in tow. It just goes to show how good these guys are when they are playing for something other than money and an 82-game schedule..... Country PRIDE..
Ovechkin was a nut job today, and almost knocked Jagr into Montreal. Jagr still looks good at age 38, and may come back to NHL next year.
Ryan Miller was fantastic in goal. I don't know how any goalie can stay so composed in the final 1:30 of the game when the announcer called Canada's attack a "shooting gallery". And Brodeur flop-style goaltending is fun to watch.

One of the best hockey games I have watched in a long time. Always great to shut up a rival on there home ice but nothing beats watching our boys beat Canada in there home Olympics.

Why would NBC not broadcast it on NBC instead of MSNBC?
Miller was phenomenal, US took advantage of opportunities. A great stand for US at the end---and, in the end, NBC still sucks hind tittie
ABC would have broadcast it on ABC...
NBC is a joke

Not a big deal, it was just round robin game. I am sure they will broadcast the important games from here on out.
Awesome effort by Team USA

Awesome effort from start to finish!
USA finished every check, and took every shot available.
Minnesotans Langenbrunner and Backes and Johnson had great nights.
Depending on FIN/SWE tonight, it's possible that Canada and Russia could meet in quarters eliminating one before the nedal games........Yikes!

Canada has to get by Germany first.
These seeds are set.
#6 Canada
#7 Slovakia
#8 Switzerland
#9 Belarus
#10 Norway
#11 Germany
#12 Latvia
5 vs 12, 6 vs 11, 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9 Play in schedule.
As the sixth seed Canada will either play Russia or Sweden in the Quarterfinals. One of them has to finish third.
USA gets the #1 seed if Sweden beats Finland by less than 5 goals. They would then play 8/9 winner. They can finish no worse than #2 likely against the Slovaks in the QF's.

NBC put the game on MSNBC because of advertising revenue, ever notice how many commercial breaks there are on NBC? It seems 1 every 5 minutes, they'd miss half of the game or sell far less commercials and NBC paid a ton for the broadcast rights. If the US makes the gold medal game I bet NBC gets big money for exclusive sponsership with few commercial breaks like CBS gets with the Masters.
Canada's defense looked old and slow, the Americans were behind them all night. Langenbrunner could have had a stool in front of Brodeur as no Canadian would get in position to move him out. The Americans road just got easier although Slovakia is pretty darn good, the Canadians are in trouble because in my opinion the Russians are the team to beat and that's who Canada should get in the quarterfinals.

Completely agree Goldy that the Leafs are in trouble. Now, they could obviously beat the Russians and advance, but right now I'd say Russia is a buzz saw...but an inconsistent one.
Slovakia beating Russia is one of the biggest hockey wins in recent Olympic history. GREAT game and finish. Even bigger after the way Russia dominated the Czechs today. I think Slovakia is the dark horse team. They are very, very dangerous.
This is one of the greatest hockey tourneys ever...the balance of the teams, the way the games lay out...amazing!

Something is missing when I watched the Russia game. Oh I know, its the C C C P on the front of the jersey. They needs to go old school and bring those back, like the US did with the replica 1960's jerseys they wore last night.

I am pretty sure Russia would not put CCCP on the front of their jersey again...

Ah, now that makes sense why the game was on msnbc. It would of been a boost for hockey if it was on nbc but it was great to watch the game with no commercial interuptions.

Agree, the lack of commercials made it great. My only complaint is they didn't put it on USA-HD, as this game deserved to be shown in high definition. They are showing the U.S. Women's semi-final against Sweden on USA-HD today at 2:00 pm, so why not the men last night?

no commercials makes sense that they would broadcast it on msnbc.
Meanwhile, no mention on the National Bullsh&t Corp of US-CCCP anny.
Just got done watching the US 1980 Gold program on ESPN classic. Jim McKay was awesome, a true icon.
I hate NBC

I liked the lack of commercials, but did anyone else notice that they didnt resume coverage till a minute into the second period because of that Nike commercial.
