yes, it has been hosted at Target Center, as well as the WCHA Final Five a few years back.
I haven't actually been to a game played there. Do you think it is a good place for this venue?
I just gagged a little bit at this confirmation. Target Center will be HORRIBLE atmosphere for high school hockey.

Sure, it will hold more people that missed out on Mariucci last year, but I doubt it will be filled to the rafters. Plus, the Target Center is dark and old and has no hockey history.

Of course it will not be filled all the way up. How close do the boards of the rink come up to the stands?

Can't imagine the ice would be very good for just a one day event!

Seriously, I would pick EP at home. The seniors haven't done well at the EPCC since squirts. That includes D6 league, first test tournamemt, and D6 playoffs.

Rink 1 is cursed...
EP has never figured out the away from EP ice and win at Pagel. They will lose at Tonka home ice at Pagel, but this will further come into play at the section finals at the Olympic sheet at of the U of M ice. This should be a great game on an open ice environment. Edge is Tonka given their depth, but EP will give them a game.
How can you say EP is at a huge disadvantage compared to Tonka on Mariucci when EP handled Tonka last year at the U? They were basically the same teams that they are now except the loss of Leddy for EP but now Gardiner is out for Tonka. I'll take EP 1-0 with Tonka hurt offensively.
EP two out of three.

Eagles will be exposed as a less than top 10 team, Tonka wins 5-1

The 1999 and 2000 State Tournaments were held at the Target Center. And from what I remember the ice wasn't very good then.

From what I hear the reason for moving the section 2AA and 6AA finals to the Target Center is twofold. For one, the attendance issue. Last year's finals garnered over 12,000 people and they're trying alleviate some of the congestion and make the traffic flow a little easier. Secondly, two days after the section finals are to be held, on Friday, March 5th, the Gophers men's hockey team is playing against Wisconsin at the Target Center in the "Border Battle." So the ice will be kept in place for that game as well.

And as of right now there hasn't been any long term commitment to using the Target Center as a permanent facility for the section final games. It's more of a test run.

Target Center will be an excellent venue for the section finals. 12,000 people will fill the lower bowl plus more. NHL instead of Olympic size. If they can get the ice right, it will be outstanding.

You guys aren't going to like this but this is the real reason they're playing the section finals at the Target Center this season:

So anyway back to the game...

I think at this point in the year I can't pick against Tonka until someone proves they can be beaten. Do I think they will go undefeated? No. But they have to be the favorite whenever they play and I'm not going to pick the upset everytime until I'm right.

Tonka 5 EP 2

Familiar score, huh?

Andrew Ford is an awfully good goalie 10,8 and even 5 is a stretch to put past the kid.
