Last year we were in a D6 tournament; (non-D6) team was playing a D6 team- both teams had players without attached mouthguards. D6 team was penalized, non- D6 team not penalized (since they were not required in their district).mnhcp wrote:If a non D6 team such as a D3 or D8 team (where tethered mouthguards aren't required) plays a scrimmage on D6 icew/ D6 refs , will the referee call a penalty on our players as most our team has non-tethered mouthguards?
Please advise as we have an upcoming scrimmage scheduled with a D6 team? Does our team need to get new mouthguards or should we call to cancel our scrimmage as that is what we're thinking. D6 is over the top on this and many other things.
We were just given a heads up to beware.

Hey boardmember, boardmember wrote:We had a player given a 10 Min penalty for not having his tethered mouth guard in while sitting on the bench getting a drink of water. hiptzech, Don't give me that disipline line. The ref was skating by the bench looked at the player blew the play dead assessed the penalty. This is taking to rule way too far!hiptzech wrote: If the players are not keeping their mouth guards in their mouths, be ready to have a player sit for 10 mines. They will get it figured out. If you can't coach and discipline your players, the refs can always help you do your job.
Why are you taking a run at me…It wasn’t me that dished out the pathetic penalty. If you want to get crappy with me, try this on for size. Why was it that I did a scrimmage all three goalies where on the ice without mouthguards at all? Is it the officials responsibility that these kids got on the ice with out a mouthgaurd at all? Where do the coaches and parents come into play? Both teams were D6, mouth guards should have been tethered. They didn’t even have mouth guards at all. No penalties where handed out, I detected it during warm ups so the players had time to go back to the locker room and get their mouth guards. One of the teams started the game with six skaters because the goalie was getting his mouth guard. I had another skater skate by me with the puck, and the mouth guard hanging in his mask. As he skated by me I told him to get his mouthguard in his mouth once he got rid of the puck. He passed the puck, put his mouthguard in and continued in the play. I warned the bench at the next stoppage of play.
So before you start taking runs, boardmember you should stop and think for a min. We see a whole lot more than you do. We are all different. I will not categorize every coach or parent based on your comments, I am not that guy. Did you file a complaint with the D6 referee in charge or did you just go on your way and decide to piss and moan on this board? Instead of enabling the ref’s bad behavior by not letting someone know that can do something about it, you should maybe let our boss know. He MAY actually have a discussion about using common sense.
Oh, enjoy the game
