What's the injury? It can't be that bad if he hasn't missed a game. I'm not saying he's not a great goalie and he's played in some huge Youth Hockey games. The difference is now he's playing against big boys. The other thing is, as Blaine would surely tell you, Centennial's defense ain't the greatest. This was obvious the first time they squared off against MG this season in a tight 2-1 win for the Cougars. For Centennial to win Tuesday they need a goalie that is 100% physically and mentally. For whatever reason, injury not withstanding, that is not currently the case.

Let me say it again, he's a great goalie and will likely play after high school. Unfortunately, unless his defense steps it up 2-3 notches to help him through this, advantage Maple Grove in the quarter finals.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure you'll let me know on Wednesday. Win, lose, or draw it should be a good one.
Actually he suffered a back injury and got 2 different opinions. They said that he can play but he is putting himself at risk to worsen it. Everyone feared that his season was in fact over. Ive heard this straight from a number of different players on the team. As for your big games idea, he has proved himself against some of the top competition for example holding Edina to 1 goal under a ton of pressure playing on fsn and in front of a ton of fans, allowing 1 goal against Blaine in a sold out Fogerty.. how much did MG goalie allow against Blaine?? and has Maple Grove played any big games outside the conference? I dont think so

In MG's last win over Centennial:
2 goals 2nd line
1 goal 3rd line
2 goals 1st line
(in that order)

Your answer, YES.
Ah, well now I'm convinced....I was thinking more along the lines of the entire season as opposed to a single game.
That's right, your 1st line isn't supposed to lead your team in scoring throughout the year (sarcasm)

I don't think I said anything about a team's 1st line being its leading scorers....Top teams also get consistent scoring from their second and sometimes even third lines and I hadn't seen that from Maple Grove.

Maple Grove definitely had there chance. They might have had a chance if they would have changed goalies after 2 weak goals. Aus out coached MG's WEAK coaching once again. Quite a few bone headed moves by this coaching staff cost these kids their chance. The Cougars are lucky to have a great coaching staff that MG lacks. They made all the right moves.

i agree, MG definitely had their chance. Both goalies let up some weak goals. When the score was 4-3 i was suprised the centennial fans were still doing the "Sieve" chant.

I watched both 5AA games tonight and goaltending was the obvious difference between the two matchups. Hats off to the Osseo goalie for keeping your team in the game!

Maple Grove Seniors

Post by hockey59 »

My hat goes off to the Maple Grove Seniors - particularly Gross, Gaustad, Dee, Malone and Cossette....you guys played one hell of a game and deserved a better fate...your teams puck movement was as good as I've seen this year at the HS level.

Centennial found a way to win...as they often do...it will be a rocking Section Final game Friday vs Blaine.

I feel for those MG seniors too...you forgot to mention Sinz, Elmer and Frakes. It was a hard way for Sinz to go out. The kid was just great at getting the diggin the puck out and setting up his teammates. Why the coaches sat him the 3rd period I'll never know. Tough loss for these kids. Hats off to the Cougars for coming back after being down 2 goals. What a great game. This MG team had a bunch of good hockey players and not just one star.

Ha Ha one star? I must say hes good but 1 legit goal and 1 empty net goal doesn't add up to 6. Better luck next season HAHA
