Will he play Jr. next year? Any colleges interested in him?
Gophs should try and go after him. It's what they need.

Congrats on a nice little HS career, but...

SEMinnHockeyNut wrote:That is good. It would be great to have more Rochester kids playing D1 hockey, and hopefully WCHA hockey. Charlie and Tyler both will be given their chance.

However, the number of 'elite' players is down in Rochester, and it seems to have started with the current set-up.

My point was not about their individual success, but rather the shady things going on with RYHA. I know it is probably difficult to hear the criticism of the purple posse since your son now coaches there.

I wonder how Mayo would have done in 1995 had the son of your friend stayed with Jason and Matt Leimbek and not gone to JM. Perhaps that would've given Mayo a 2nd line to beat Moorhead that year?

I appreciate that you care about all players, but I also know from your posts that you probably agree with my in philosophy of how to run a youth hockey program. Rochester has tons of squirt teams, but few bantam teams and there is a reason for that. There is absolutely no logic to the way things are set up having kids in the same neighborhood playing at the same level, but on 3-4 different teams.

If you don't think it is happening call the Kurth family and see how many people got in that young man's ear before he left Mayo HS after his freshman year. I also find it funny that nobody responded to the individual running captain's practice and then still talking to players and coaches in season.

As far as private schools not having their own associations, that is not true. Some private schools have now created their own associations in hockey and Lourdes has its own youth basketball programs. It can be done. Those of us who tried to form our own Mayo association under the umbrella of RYHA were told we could not because they built the rinks and they threatened to make our squirts practice at 9PM if we did it. The last time I checked there is more 'Mayo money' in those rinks than 'Century money' since Mayo kids have been paying for youth hockey much longer.
You are right on with your posts on what goes on within the RYHA program. Anyone that trys to defend the current system has got be part of the problem. Rochester is a large enough town to support an A level team for all three public high schools and then feed some into Lourdes. It will only be then that Rochester will be come consistetly competitive at the high school level, on a state level.

Go back to your post, in it you mentioned Charlie and Grosso. So going with your logic your previous comments had nothing to do with the OP. =;

He left his Mayo friends after 8th grade and the public schools to escape the shadow of Charlie and Tom eh?
One of several green and gold guys wearing purple now. Nice job landing that one Coach Haskins.
He left because he could get a better education and Bob Haskins was the best coach in Rochester. I dont think he was scared of being in the shadows of those two...what have they done?
If he left for a better education, why is his sister attending Mayo?

Nut,

Are there Catholics at Mayo?
How dare they CHOOSE to go to a public school!

Thanks for signing up because of me. How many posts are you up to now?

Of course they are Catholics at Mayo..and they grew up going to Bamber, then Willow, etc.....clearly you get my point, Tyler went to Lourdes for hockey after he was recruited by the 'best coach' in Rochester and the purple posse. If said coach is the best coach in Rochester, why didn't he take his team to the state tournament every year?

Oh, I know, now we wiil get the sob story about how STA recruits and they are too tough to beat, etc...

By the way, there were several state tournament games when Lourdes was clearly outcoached by other teams when Ness/Haskins were there. I remember having a conversation with Duncan, the great defenseman a few years ago, and he expressed his frustration at his coaches inability to make the prorper in game adjustments in the big games that counted.

Clearly the coaching is suspect there now since according to some the BAT line would be the 3rd line there. If that is the case, how did they ever lose to Albert Lea, Delano, etc? Wouldn't they be undefeated this year if that were the case?

Last time I checked, a good coach would be playing Spratte much more than some other kid who's dad donates quite a bit of money to the blue line club, etc. What a joke!

Bottom liine is that Forletti should be the head coach. Lourdes keeps a guy on staff who drops the F-bomb around teenage kids on a daily basis.
Talking about having a 4th line player as a coach. What did Spaniol ever do when he was in high school and beyond that if that is what makes a good coach?

Sioux Fan - you should go into politics with your ability to avoid questions.
Are you ok with Lourdes breaking MSHSL rules? Are you ok with the awful politics of RYHA if you care about ALL players? Are you ok with the fact that Brian B. went from Mayo to JM and back to Mayo? They worked the system.

As far as the Moorhead game, you answered my question indirectly. once Moorhead took the lead did you think Grosso and Whitney should have put out the lunch bucket line to tie the game? No, you don't...you think they should do exactly what they did - put out Matt Leimbek and watch him make the greatest lateral movement move I have seen in a high school kid. That lunch bucket line was good and necessary, but you need lines that score. Had Brian B. stayed, they would have won that game and you know it. You are also a coach and realize that you need some skill guys, who work hard, and know they can win to be an elite team.

Last year Mayo's MVP as voted by the team was Tony Schultz - great kid, worked hard, had energy, but limited skill. How many goals did he score? Tony was the kind of player all teams need, but teams rely more on the Matt Leimbek's of the world than they do the Tony Schultz's.
In other words, if Lourdes needs a key goal with 39 seconds left to force OT, do you put Tyler Voigt's line out there or Tim Bier's? Easy answer isnt' it?

Do not answer your questions to me for me

I would like to address the question about playing the right guys.

You need every guy to do their job and you are only successful when everyone is pulling together on the rope.

The Moorhead game went into two overtimes and it would always be nice to have another skilled player.

But if your skilled players do not want to get after it and sacrifice and make the easy plays hard all the time then you will not be successful.

If your skilled players are not in top physical condition and willing to sell out for the team you will not be successful.

And if you are not willing to lay it out there and be responsible for your actions and respect the officials and teammates and coaches than you will not be successful.

I am looking forward to watching what teams give it everything they have and also get the bounces the next two weeks.

Good luck to all the boys in Section 1 and when we go to the tourney let's win some games. Let's not be happy to be there.

And due to my altzheimers I forgot my favorite kid on the Mayo team Mr. Moen.

It was Moen Elliot and Thompson line that made that unit go in the state tourney. My hat is off to them.

Sioux Fan - so you think Brian was lazy?
You think Mayo shouldn't have played your son so much and in key times of the game?
I'm all for hard work but if hard work is all it took to win a team sport AL would be state champs every year.

Where do you get that idea?

I always liked Brian Buskowiak and his brother Brandon.

Lazy was not a part of either one of their games heck I watch the games with their Dad and mom all the time.

Went to the Lourdes game and Wild vs Red Wing game with Brian and my son Matt and Rick last night.

It was a good day with the Tyler Voigt goal with 12 seconds left and the Wild lighting up the ex Maine goalie Howard get lit up by Owen Nolan and the Wild.

Great day for me.

Here is a hint I learned from a great former fighting Sioux player Lee Goren that played with Jason.

He often told Coach Blais that when he rolled all four lines that the best line could play like the top line because they were fresh and ready. It worked pretty well when they scored two goals in the third period to beat Clemmenson and the BC Eagles to win the title in Providence in 2000.

Jason played a lot in that game as the third line energy line with Ryan Hale and Kevin Spiewak. It was fun for everyone. Some games there are only one or two goals and the 3rd or 4th line might score em.

On our teams we roll 4 lines and play with great energy and it is fun for everybody.

The last two games I watched Albert Lea play they played hard and they played well they will be a factor in the tourney big time.
