How bout the Broten family? Neal, Aaron, Paul, Jacob, Shawn. Did I miss any? All those boys plus their offspring kind of stack up as a mountain in my opinion. At least 3 are playing in Roseau now - Chase - A Bantam, Blaine - A Pee Wee and Nate - A Squirt. Pretty tough to top that group.

Willard Ikola, goalie at Eveleth - 3 state titles & coach at Edina - 33 years, 8 state titles
John Mayasich, player at Eveleth - 4 state titles, 36 state tourney goals
Larry Ross, coach at I Falls - 31 years, 6 state titles
Oscar Almquist, coach at Roseau - 27 years, 4 state titles
Rube Gustafson, coach at St. Paul Johnson - 19 years, 4 state titles

...might be plunder, not thunder...
okay...it was bugging me...hate to admit it...I like d the tune back in the day...
Not to be picky but it's the Mt. Rushmore of High School hockey. Maruicci, Brooks & Broten were great HS players, but made their fame in college, the Olympics and the pros.

Sorry Bud, the Roseau team with the Broten brothers was exciting to watch. Huge numbers on that big line with Bryan Erickson and they alone made the Rams one of the state's top teams.
No disrespect to the Brotens and Bryan Erickson, but they couldn't get past Edina in the state quarters and semis 3 years in a row. 3rd place don't get you on Mt. Rushmore.

Winning the state title is all about goaltending. They had less than none.

Don't s'pose small enrollment caught up with them, do ya'.
Without that line there was no excitement about Roseau those years. They were very accomplished.
The City of White Bear lake has some noted names as well-
Steve Janaszak lived in White Bear but attended Hill-Murray, he was the back-up goalie for the 1980 Olympic team.
Moose Goheen has the annual youth tournament named in his honor.
Doc Romnes and David Tanabe
But none of those really apply to high school Hockey.
Herb Brooks
John Mayasich
Willard Ikola
Neal Broten
Steve Christoff
Robb Stauber
2nd Team:
Larry Ross
Tom Saterdalen
Brian Bonin
Jordan Leopold
Johnny Pohl
Aaron Broten
I find it interesting that so many have Brooks on the HS list as he was maybe the 4th or 5th best player on the 1955 JHS team. Herb made his mark in the college and Olympic ranks.
