I see Roseau set up the brakets to avoid playing.... Edina, Wayzata, Elk River. The irony, all 3 Roseau losses are from those teams. One would think that the Rams would like a shot at those teams Top 3 rated teams on their home ice to avenge a loss, instead of avoiding them.
I think Roseau did a pretty good job on the brackets. One of the nice things about a tourney are playing teams that you don't play frequently. If you look at the lets play hockey rankings they have a top 20 playing an unranked team which should make for better pairings on Saturday and Sunday.
The only exception is the EGF Wayzata game. There are also 5 unranked teams that EGF plays frequently so I'm sure that EGF likes the challenge to test themselves to get into the gold bracket.
Edina (3) vs TRF
Roseau (5) vs Rapids
Grand Forks vs Rochester (20)
Centenial (13) vs Crookston
Elk River (1) vs Lakeville South
Eden Praire (9) vs Fargo South
Chaska (14) vs Warroad
Wayzata (2) vs East Grand Forks. (10)

Or could it be that Roseau has played Edina (playing again Thursday night), Wayzata, Elk River, and Rochester, but not Chaska, Centennial, or EP?
Nah, that can't be it.

This is going to be a fun tourney and I can’t resist throwing in my two cents on predicting the winner. My credentials are I have seen Edina play more then 10 times, Roseau twice, Rochester twice, Centennial 6 times, Elk River 4 times, Lakeville South 6 times, Eden Prairie 4 times, Chaska 3 times and Wayzata 6 times. The others (all northern teams) not once. But I have followed them over the last three months. The Grand Forks team in the tourney is the Grand Forks Seawolves.
The championship round should go like this
Elk River over Eden Prairie
Roseau over Centennial
Rochester over Edina
Wayzata over Chaska
Semifinals
Roseau over Elk River
Wayzata over Rochester
Finals
Roseau over Wayzata
The other bracket should go like this
Lakeville South over Fargo Flyers
Crookston over Grand Rapids
Thief River Falls over Grand Forks
East Grand Forks over Warroad
Semifinals
Lakeville South over Crookston
East Grand Forks over Thief River Falls
Finals
East Grand Forks over Lakeville South
My belief is that the deeper a south team gets in the tourney, the more tired they will get. The ice in Roseau is harder then the southern teams are used to playing on (puck moves faster, easier). Refs will tend to “let the kids play” resulting in fewer stoppages. Roseau's ultimate strength is their defense and that is what it will take to win the tourney. EGF will not be able to take Wayzata in the first game and will be ready for Lakeville South in the finals. Lakeville South will have to work to get there.
Now if I am totally wrong in my predictions, my alibi will be “they are kids”.

If Edina, Wayzata, and Elk River all win their first game, they are all in the bottom bracket of Gold Division. While your final could be Roseau vs Wayzata. Wayzata will play Elk River in their first game of the Gold Division. Edina will Play Rochester.
Roseau likely will play EP in their first game of the Gold Division. If thet win they will likely play the Chaska/Centenial winner in the Semi's
theirs alot of good teams in this tourney and no one will have a free ride to the title game. i will also say this talking to the players, parents and coaches they all want to play zata or elk river befor the weekend is out or perhaps the state tourney. all involved with this peewee team knows that we could do better than the first match up with these two teams. fred as for your comments i wouldnt say roseaus "strength" is not its defense. however i would also say the biggest improvment about this team since the begining of the year is its defensive players. this tourney will be an excellant test to see how much that improvment shows on the ice with the best teams.

Roseau
Ram Hockey, watchdog and all the great folks up in Roseau thanks for always putting on very memorable tournaments. You folks do it best in the State in my opinion and that is no slight to any other association, it is simply my favorite place to travel to watch the puck drop. How about a little gratitude folks instead of second guessing and ripping volunteers for doing a lot of hard work, which by the way is all done without pay. Some of you people need to take a step back, maybe 3 steps back and realize there is more that unites us than divides us. Roseau plays Rapids and Elk River plays Lakeville sooooooooooooo what it is one game out of 40 or 50. We do not need a Congressional hearing on this but maybe just a smile and handshake to the folks up in Roseau who manage to put on some great tournaments. Here is some free advice for some of you folks try and have some fun in Roseau this weekend instead of being so uptight. The 9-5 rush hour traffic will come soon enough.

Assuming they can get out of distridcts with EGF, Bemidji and Warroad standing in their way.watchdog wrote:theirs alot of good teams in this tourney and no one will have a free ride to the title game. i will also say this talking to the players, parents and coaches they all want to play zata or elk river befor the weekend is out or perhaps the state tourney. all involved with this peewee team knows that we could do better than the first match up with these two teams. fred as for your comments i wouldnt say roseaus "strength" is not its defense. however i would also say the biggest improvment about this team since the begining of the year is its defensive players. this tourney will be an excellant test to see how much that improvment shows on the ice with the best teams.

They wouldn't have Wayzata, Edina & ER in the same part of the bracket so Roseau only has to play one of the Top Three teams in the state in the championship game would they?elliott70 wrote:Assuming they can get out of distridcts with EGF, Bemidji and Warroad standing in their way.watchdog wrote:theirs alot of good teams in this tourney and no one will have a free ride to the title game. i will also say this talking to the players, parents and coaches they all want to play zata or elk river befor the weekend is out or perhaps the state tourney. all involved with this peewee team knows that we could do better than the first match up with these two teams. fred as for your comments i wouldnt say roseaus "strength" is not its defense. however i would also say the biggest improvment about this team since the begining of the year is its defensive players. this tourney will be an excellant test to see how much that improvment shows on the ice with the best teams.
I would think Roseau, Wayzata, Edina & ER would be split after the play in game (if they each win).
Does anyone know how it is scheduled to be played after the play in games?
Found the brackets on the website (didn't see them last time I looked).Bronc wrote:They wouldn't have Wayzata, Edina & ER in the same part of the bracket so Roseau only has to play one of the Top Three teams in the state in the championship game would they?elliott70 wrote:Assuming they can get out of distridcts with EGF, Bemidji and Warroad standing in their way.watchdog wrote:theirs alot of good teams in this tourney and no one will have a free ride to the title game. i will also say this talking to the players, parents and coaches they all want to play zata or elk river befor the weekend is out or perhaps the state tourney. all involved with this peewee team knows that we could do better than the first match up with these two teams. fred as for your comments i wouldnt say roseaus "strength" is not its defense. however i would also say the biggest improvment about this team since the begining of the year is its defensive players. this tourney will be an excellant test to see how much that improvment shows on the ice with the best teams.

Hey Frederick 61
I am just wondering how you can pick the Rams over Elk River. The Elks TOTALLY outclassed the Rams at Eden Prairie. Your saying their defense will carry them through. Elk River has an average of less than one goal per game scored against them. They have beat all but 1 of every top 20 team they faced. And the one thing Elk River is hoping for is that the Refs let them play. As far as your ice being faster who are you trying to kid. Line up Elk River against the Rams and Elk River will have 7 of the 10 fastest kids. It won't be a blowout like at EP but I think your kidding your self about the competition up north.

roseau just beat edina 7-5 a good clean fast paced hockey game that was decided by the players on the ice not the refs. it was a great game to watch and im looking forward to watching all the games this weekend. watching this game tonight reminded me of why i love this sport! it also says something else to the hockey world ROSEAU IS FOR REAL and not the cake walk that (walk on water) seems to think. im not saying roseau is the greatest thing since slice bread im just saying their capable of beating anyone and that includes elk river which i hope we play this weekend for sweet redemption.
