tonka v. hopkins - round 3

If we can learn anything from the CDH girls team this year it's that anything can happen in sections. As much as Minnetonka should be favored (although I don't think it should be much given the season split) it would imho be foolish to expect Minnetonka to roll Hopkins. All it takes is one stellar goalie performance, one bad bounce, one penalty and/or one stellar individual effort to create a goal to win or lose a game.

we shall see how fons plays today.. that will be the deciding factor of whether it is a close game or not

Minnetonka's Jake Gardiner scores the winner 3 minutes into the first overtime on a wrister from the left circle that Fons got his glove on but couldn't stop. Minnetonka doubled Hopkins shots on goal but Hopkins battled the whole game and made the most of their chances, though I thought Minnetonka's goalie was shaky at times.

Here are the unofficial details, minus the penalties (I think there were four the whole game, two for each team):

As I said, there was reason to be skeptical of Tonka rolling Hopkins and that's exactly what happened. Hopefully they won't have to face a goalie like that again.

Um, you're a little late with that, they already played.

Fons played a whale of a game, he made a spectacular stop coming across to rob Tonka point blank. Somebody told me Hopkins is only losing 4 seniors, if so, they'll be tough next year.

i gotta admit hopkins really battled hard , fons had some huge saves and again minnetonka had over 50 shots

This was an amazing game. I came to see Gardinier #19 and he didn't dissapoint. I was behind the Hopkins goal on his OT winner, Fons had the puck but the shot was so hard his glove twisted and the puck went in!

There were lots of scouts and I bet they noticed Max Gardinier (#27) his soph kid brother - he's almost as big as his brother & can he play.

Hopkins proved they are the real deal - losing only 4 seniors & a returning Junior & Senior Goalie next year they're going to be tough.

What a great game - Hat's off to Hopkins & good luck 'Tonka!
