O-Town thank you for the props on my prediction on the EP kids Beating Edina. Oronohockey guy I have a ? for you. You said EP hasn't palyed a tough schedule and Edina has, looks like they have played almost the same teams all year. Maybe it is that these are the best two youth programs in the state. I saw the game last night and EP played a great defensive game, yes Edina has a lot of skill, but as I remember goaltending and Defense wins championships. Like to see how Edina reacts to this lose and the next tight game they are in. Good Luck to all in Fargo!

Press Clippings

Post by hockeywizard »

As I recall Edina was 'all that' undefeated, unbeatable and ranked #1 in the Squirt division in Fargo last year and didn't even make the '#1' bracket of the tournament!? So much for press clippings!

egf hockey1 wrote:I think EGF, GF Blues, Fargo Angels, Fargo Flyers are the only chance for a northern team to win the tournament this year. But like has been mentioned above, the International is a grind. To win you have to win 6 games in 3 days. Northern teams, for the most part, don't have the depth to hang on that long. Edina has 175 kids to chose from. All the northern teams have about 40 to chose from. The 3rd lines can hold their own for a game or two, but six is asking alot. The depth will always prevail in this type of grueling schedule.

The tournament is an absolute blast. The chance to play the teams you do and see some of the best players in the country at that age level is quite exciting. I have a feeling that the Edina pin is going to be the prized possesion this year.
MUST DO!!!! Burgers at the Coliseum or Famous Daves at the Fargo South High School Arena. Best part of the whole tournament!

I respect the Northern teams, but the only northern team with a chance of winning is Fargo Flyers, and i doubt that they win. I agree, depth is huge. Dont let your kids play in the pool on a game day. But i also think that the southern teams like wayzeta, ep, and edina are your best bets to win because they just are a little better. Granted, i have not seen most of the teams in the tourny, and am interested to see how the Thunder Bay teams fare, but ep, wayzeta, and edina stand out to me.

Flyers are very good, but they split with the Fargo Angels and split with East Grand Forks. EGF outplayed them for most of both games. To say they are the only team with a chance is a little bold. Looking at brackets, Flyers and EGF have a little easier road to make a run toward the championship, then the Blue or Angels. Should play each other in quarters, but have Edina waiting in the semis.

Great tourney!!! Good luck to all teams.

I don't see where the Flyers squirt A team split with EGF...I only see 3 losses for the Flyers this year according to the results on their website:
4-1 Wayzata
5-2 Wisconsin Fire AAA
6-5 Fargo Angels

I do however see that the EGF Squirt A beat the Flyer Gold team 4-1, maybe that is causing some confusion.

According to both the Fargo Flyers and EGF Blue Line Club websites, EGF Squirt Black beat the Fargo Flyers Squirt Gold on 5 Jan 3-2 in EGF and lost to Fargo Squirt Gold on 15 Feb in Fargo 4-1.

Also

According to both the Fargo Flyers and EGF Blue Line Club websites, the Fargo Flyers Squirt A beat EGF Squirt A (Gold) on 8 Feb in EGF 8-3. According to the EGF website, on 16 Feb EGF Squirt A beat the Flyers in Fargo 8-6. This is not reported on the Flyers website as it seems their scoreboard has not been updated since 8 Feb.

Good luck to all the teams heading up or over or down today. It should be a great weekend of games. If it's EP or Edina or Whoever that wins it, I'm sure they will have played some great hockey to get there.

You 100% correct. Good win for EGF.

Pool games are today. Can people feed in scores as they get them?

They will start posting them on the website, fargohockey.org look for the

Squirt International tab on the left side, click on the pairings/brackets link.

Usually pretty good about updating once everything gets rolling.

Quite a site to see on the opening night of the "Squirt Olympics," over

1000 people on the ice for the group photo and the various competitions.

Wow... the Colorado teams are all being soundly beaten by Minnesota teams. I would have assumed that MN has superior youth hockey, but not 10-0 superior like in a couple of the games.

Thanks Zebos. This is shaping up like a race between teams from the Southwest suburbs. Edina, Eden Prairie, Wayzata. No surprise.

Wayzata FIVE-Oh over E.P.!!!!

Wow.

Edina had a surprisingly easy time with Burnsville. I thought B'ville was closing the gap as the season went on.
