Any Surprises? I would have to agree with LPH on who is #1. Duluth East has been a wrecking crew lately and deserve that spot. Surprised Roseville didn't drop more after their loss to Johnson. From the Bantam scores thread, looks like Minneapolis Park knocked off Roseville 5-3 in the last few days, but that wasn't reported in the recent tabulations. Still surprised Bloomington Jefferson hasn't made the 19th or 20th slot as they sit just outside the top 20 at #21.
Merry Christmas to all.

Did Chuck give up on giving us rankings because everybody and their brother started ranking teams? Or is Chuck a coach of one of the bantam teams that is usually pretty good and this year is having a down year so he's lost interest? Either way it is disappointing not to see Chuck on here anymore.

Jefferson should move up now, they won the Midwest Regional Tournament today knocking off Lakeville South 5-3 and also beat Burnsville by a score of 7-4.conditioningsucks wrote:12/24/08 Updated MNHockeyRankings

Here’s the latest Mnhockeyrankings.com ratings:

Bantam A
1. Wayzata
2. Duluth East
3. Osseo Maple Grove
4. Rochester
5. Rogers
6. Lakeville South
7. Eagan

9. Minnetonka - MOVE DOWN 1
10. Apple Valley
11. White Bear Lake
12. Moorhead - MOVE UP 6
13. Centennial
14. Roseville - MOVE DOWN 2
15. Minneapolis Park - MOVE DOWN 1
16. Bemidji - MOVE UP 3
17. Woodbury - MOVE DOWN 2
18. Burnsville - MOVE DOWN 1
19. Eden Prairie - MOVE DOWN 2
20. Bloomington Jeff - MOVE INTO TOP 20
No real surprises in the top 10 - the Hornets and Skippers continue to trade spots while playing consistently good hockey.
Here are the biggest surprises:
Moorhead – After a brutal November, Moorhead had a strong December knocking off Woodbury (#17), Chaska (#21), Eden Prairie (#19), and Minnetonka (#9). They move up six slots as they are on a roll.
Jefferson – I have predicted the Jaguars would show up. They have moved into the top 20 this week bumping Stillwater out. With wins over Lakeville South (#6) and Burnsville (#18) not recorded yet, watch for them to move into the #15 range in next weeks calculations. Jefferson also went 6-0 the last several days in their own tourney, the Midwest Regional, and took their second tourney championship trophy home – granted, with the exception of Bville and Lakeville South, the competition was fairly weak.
Roseville – Hate to beat a dead horse, but this team has not beat a top 20 team all year yet the math program keeps them around. A 3-3 tie to Apple Valley (#10) was their top accomplishment in the month of December.
Woodbury – With an early season win over White Bear Lake and a 6-1 win over #7 Eagan, Woodbury stays alive in the top 20 this week. They need to come up big at the Edina Invitational or they may slip off the map.
Minneapolis Park – Their only game in the last week was against Roseville, a 5-3 victory. Victories in the last month over Rochester (#4), Roseville (#14), and Woodbury (#17) are dragged down by some weak showings from early November (losses to North Metro (#26), and Blaine (#28 ) as well as a tie to Hopkins (#41)). They need to keep beating top 20’s to show they belong and that November was just a fluke. Like Woodbury, they need to show up and play at the Edina Invitational….and they will see both Woodbury and Duluth East (#2) in their bracket in this tourney.
Eden Prairie – They had a dismal December. Their wins against top 20 teams took place in November. This team appears to have lost their Mojo….and they will slip off the radar until they start competing against the big boys again. Appear on a track to finish in the bottom four of District 6.
Burnsville - They also are in jeopardy of sliding off of the Top 20 with a tie to Elk River and a loss to Jefferson.
Lakeville South - watch for them to drop down 2 or 3 slots after their loss to Bloomington Jefferson combined with a recent tie to the Cottage Grove Wolfpack (#34). Playing too inconsistent to be in the top eight.
So who moves into the top 20 if EP and Bville move out? Stillwater and Elk River appear to be as close as anyone…but who knows.
I like others would like to see some Chuck Norris Fan rankings to see what twists and turns he has to offer!

Here is the 12/31/08 Lets Play Hockey Rankings:
1 Duluth East
2 Wayzata
3 Osseo/Maple Grove
4 Rochester Red
5 Edina
6 Lakeville South
7 Apple Valley
8 White Bear Lake
9 Rogers
10 Centennial
11 Apple Valley (yep, let’s play hockey rated them twice!)
12 Roseau
13 Eden Prairie
14 Minnetonka
15 Chaska/Chanhassen
16 Eagan
17 Moorhead
18 Roseville
19 Burnsville
20 Grand Rapids
One must ask….do any of the LPH rankers even track how teams are actually doing?
Come on….Roseau #12? I know we all want outstate hockey to get some recognition in the Top 20…but Roseau? Their results agains Top 20 teams are as follows: Moorhead (7-2 loss), Eden Prairie (9-1 loss), Lakeville South (5-0 loss), Roseville (2-1 win – keep in mind, Roseville has not beat a Top 20 team this year!).
Hello Let’s Play Hockey rankers! Please take the egg off of your face and remove Roseau. If you want a sentimental play from up north, the Bemidji Lumberjacks are much more deserving (and have also beaten Roseau 5-2).
Other ones to consider
Grand Rapids - #20 . Come on; your credibility is hurting on this one too! 10-1 loss to Duluth East, 3-2 loss to the Brainerd Warriors (#49 on MNHockeyRankings!), 4-3 loss to Hermantown???
Rogers. Ranked 9th??? 19-2-2 with wins over Wayzata, Maple Grove, and Apple Valley?
All right. Let’s Play Hockey needs to either sharpen up their pencils or I am going to become the ultimate Bantam ratings guru --- seeing that Chuck Norris Fan has disappeared. At least my rankings will have a semblance of rationality behind them!

Chaska was blessed with the weakest bracket in the Edina Tourney. Per MN Hockey Rankings (Let's Play Hockey rankings currently aren't credible), Chaska got to play Stillwater (#22) and Roseau (#29). Both are nice wins, but winning against teams that are below you is expected. Arvada was a weak AA team from Colorado so that win is a 'throw out'. With that said, if I was ranking, Chaska would probably be moving into my 19th or 20th spot with their performance over the weekend. A victory over Woodbury tonight may put Chaska at 18, but my money is on Woodbury (I'll eat some crow pie if I am wrong!).

Since Chuck Norris Fan has disappeared, I am putting up the definitive rankings for MN Bantam A hockey as of January 6th, 2008. You can love these rankings or hate them, but there is no ‘politics’ involved --- just straight up matching up schedules. I would put these up against the Lets Play Hockey rankings and win as far as accuracy goes every time! I am separating them into tiers, as I believe that the teams easily layout in different tiers.
Tier 1
1 Duluth East
2 Wayzata
3 Rogers
4 Rochester Red
5 Osseo/Maple Grove
6 Eagan
These six teams are the cream of Minnesota Hockey. I have had a chance to see all of them play and they all deserve to be here. Excellent talent and well coached. Eagan historically has had discipline issues (penalties, etc.), while Osseo/Maple Grove in the past could destroy a Tier 2 or 3 team one day and then struggle against a non-ranked team. It appears these teams have worked things out and make it into my Tier 1.
Tier 2
7 Moorhead
8 Lakeville South
9 Edina
10 White Bear Lake
11 Minnetonka
12 Apple Valley
All of these teams are solid, but none of them play with the consistency of the top six. Good talent with a few holes…well coached.
Tier 3
13 Woodbury
14 Centennial
15 Minneapolis Park
16 Bemidji
17 Bloomington Jefferson
These teams are all ‘Jekyl & Hydes’. One day they can slay a top 12 team, the next day they are struggling against a lesser foe. Third line players tend to be a big step down from top two lines. Well coached teams but struggle with talent disparities.
Tier 4
18 Chaska
19 Stillwater
20 Burnsville
21 Eden Prairie
22 Roseville
These teams have taken the Jekyl & Hyde to a higher level. They all can be very competitive with Tier 3 teams, but really do not have the mojo to consistently compete and prevail against Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams. Like Tier 3 teams, these teams really have two lines of decent “A” level players and a big dropoff in their 11-15th players.
While I have watched Rogers play and they do play their top 10 players heavily, there is such a huge disparity between their 11-15 players compared to their top 10, that they would not be able to compete and prevail at the highest levels without coaching to win based on the opponents they are up against.
You will note that Roseau and Grand Rapids do not appear, despite Lets Play Hockey’s high regard for these programs in their rankings. Roseau is definitely the better of the two, but in my mind they find themselves in an unrankable blob of teams between 23 and 31. (unrankable because the teams are horribly inconsistent). The teams are:
Tier 5
Roseau
Grand Rapids
Elk River
East Grand Forks
North Metro
Hermantown
Anoka
Blaine
Tartan
So, pick me apart, but I think this is about as close as to where each of these teams stand as you will get. I will provide updates as the season progresses.

Agreed...with the major exception of Eagan. I have seen them play several times and they have not impressed me at all. They lost to Woodbury by 5 and didn't advance in the Edina tourney.conditioningsucks wrote:Since Chuck Norris Fan has disappeared, I am putting up the definitive rankings for MN Bantam A hockey as of January 6th, 2008.

They lost to Woodbury by 5 and didn't advance in the Edina tourney.[/quote]
Thanks Slapstkhound. I did review Eagan's scores again and you are correct. Though I am not going to move them from #6, I am going to drop them into Tier 2 until next time I pull together.
Re: Tartan? Hermantown? Are you asking whether they shouldn't be in Tier 5 at all? Neither of them are in the top 22 right now as they haven't shown they can play there. So are you saying they should be bumped out of Tier 5? I think they belong there.

Conditioning... just wait they will turn on you eventually, you will be political, or have a favorite team or someone may even accuse you of being a coach of a fallen top team. So far I think you are doing a good job. I would put these up against the Lets Play Hockey rankings and win as far as accuracy goes every time!
Here ya go, if ya care!
1. Duluth East - Just overpowering teams, this is probably their year
2. Wayzata - Most high powered offense, can their D and G stand up to the test
3. Rochester - Has played very well this year, PP is very good
4. Rogers - great 1st line, will see if this will hold till the end of the year
5. Osseo Maple Grove - Speed Kills and this team capitilizes on it often
6. Lakeville South - Only seen them once, looked solid
7. Edina - always fighting hard to be on top, as everyone always tries to take you down
8. Eagan - playing well, I would like to see them play some more top teams
9. Apple Valley- split with Edina may take District 6
10. Minnetonka - not as good as begining of year but, impressive since
11. Centennial - Not sure about this team, but I know they are better than the teams below
12. Moorhead - solid team, and goaltending needs to be good for them to make some noise
13. White Bear Lake - up and down all year, another big weekend this week in Roseau
14. Woodbury - good weekend in Edina, but not a top tier team
15. Roseville - impressed that this community still produces quality hockey
16. Bemidji - good northern team, I have yet to see them in person
17. Eden Prairie - Potential is there, but there will be no threepeat
18. Minneapolis Park - too much up and down, can be good, but also bad
19. Burnsville - can make some noise in District tourney
20. Bloomington Jefferson - this just makes 6 the hardest district around
good luck to all, no numbers, no strength of schedule, just what I think.

Seems like Jefferson defines the term "flying under the radar"...They are 14-2-1 since November 26th which includes winning Bvlle and Midwest Regional tournaments. Only losses since then were to #19 Bvlle, and #16 Bemidji. Amongst the victories were #14 Woodbury, #19 Bvlle (twice), #6 Lakeville South, #17 Eden Prairie, #? Chaska, and a host of patsies. The tie during the stretch came against #10 Minnetonka. Jags have quietly inched up to the top few teams in district 6 standings and currently stand 2 or 3rd with yesterdays win over EP.
good luck to all, no numbers, no strength of schedule, just what I think.
Bantam a
Given that Edina defeated Eagan this weekend by two goals and outshot them by a dozen, I'd have to flip those two teams in the rankings. As for the top 5, they are all top-notched and state title contenders. at least for now, Rochester is the hottest of the bunch.

edina eagan

it's baffling to me that you would choose to ignore a game that actually includes the two teams that we are comparing.

Firts of all, I would like to say to CNF, it is good to have you back!!
I had an opportunity to watch many of the games in Edina this past weekend, and now have seen all of the teams in the "CNF top 20" at least once. Here is my simple take, at this point.
1. Duluth East - Just overpowering teams, this is probably their year
Fighting it out for second place!!
2. Wayzata - Most high powered offense, can their D and G stand up to the test
3. Rochester - Has played very well this year, PP is very good
4. Rogers - great 1st line, will see if this will hold till the end of the year

Now, this doesnt mean your team will not make it to regions, or even state. But at this point the state title is will run through Duluth. It is thiers to lose. They are a solid team, great players that play well together, I probably watched 7 periods of thier games, against 4 different teams, and they were always in control. Again, this is my opinion
