Also hats off to the freshman ER goalie. Played very well. Easily could have been 8 to 1. He kept them in it the first 2 periods and gave them a chance to win. It will be fun to watch him the next 3 years.
Also would like to add, very disappointed in the ER student section. Where was the support? Section final should still bring everyone to the game...whether its 5 miles away or 150 miles

Congrats to the Hounds! Getting the first goal tonight was huge, but they played extremely well for the entire game.
Props to the Elks are due, also. You gave it your best but you ran into an East team playing as good a game as I've seen them play all season.
On to State!

Three years of pain avenged indeed. It was complete domination by East minus a few spurts of shots on goal by ER. Tardy's shorthanded goal was sick.. nice pass from Forbort too. Shots were 42-10.. and the 10 for ER definitely was generous.. half of those were quality shots. Tardy played out of his mind, along with Forbort. Solid D, great forechecking, and solid play overall. Shots were lopsided early. It was something like 36-5 in the third before ER scored their PP goal. East completely dominated this game, and it was very good to see. Hope they can continue it at STATE! Go Hounds!!
I was disappointed that it wasn't a better game.. after watching St. Cloud Cathedral destroy Hermantown last night I wanted to see a good hard game tonight and Elk River didn't bring it. Section 7AA is way down.. no offense meantto East, they probably would have won still if the section were better this year.

Thanks Empire. Congratulations to Elk River- they had a great year. I wouldn't be surprised if they were playing for the right to go to State again next year.EREmpireStrikesBack wrote:![]()
Congrats to the Hounds & Lucia4Prez.

And congratulations to the Hounds. They played well, and I'm looking forward to seeing them at the X on Thursday.

First off congrats to duluth played a heck of game. Came out with fire and thats what was needed to win.
The one thing that bothered me in this game was at the end of the second Ryan Jaremko took a shot a little after the buzzer no excuse for that i know the buzzer is quiet but still control yourself. The thing that bothered me though was after the shot. The fact that forbert grabbed him was fine probably deserved, but when tardy started throwing haymakers like a fool and doesnt get tossed. Not only that elk river ended up with more penalties then duluth. I thought a punch was automatic ejection. Not that it would have helped elk river winn duluth was way to good tonight for that just think its pretty busch that they change the rule cause it was max tardy in his home town. Either way great game hounds win this one for section 7AA

Jaremko definitely heard the horn.. he actually paused as he pulled back to shoot then went through with the shot anyway.. losing your composure like that in the section final is *NOT* smart.. he's a Sophomore according to the mshsl.org rosters, so even though it's a stupid move, at least he's not a senior making that mistake.
like i stated before im sure east will get a top 4 seed im sure below edina , ep, and blaine.... who are the other 4 in it??
And congrats to the hounds great game!! first game ive seen them play all season and if they play as solid and well as they did tonight i think were looking at the state champions.... just hope cooper can have his best 3 games of the season coming up

I am not denying that but tardy still should have been gone he threw about a 5 punch combo. Its just ridiculous how non nuetral it is playing at the deccDHMN wrote:Jaremko definitely heard the horn.. he actually paused as he pulled back to shoot then went through with the shot anyway.. losing your composure like that in the section final is *NOT* smart.. he's a Sophomore according to the mshsl.org rosters, so even though it's a stupid move, at least he's not a senior making that mistake.

Maybe it would have felt more "neutral" if Elk River had brought more than 250 fans.talkofthetown17 wrote:Its just ridiculous how non nuetral it is playing at the decc
Not a good advertisement for the argument in favor of moving the final from the DECC anytime soon.

In defense of the 250 fan base, I went to the game and got home around 1:00 am. The Duluth students could have been tucked in their beds by 10:30 pm on a school night. In defense of the Duluth fans, they did come out and support their team. I'm sure if the game would have been played on a weekend, not a school night things would have been some what different. If the game was played in Elk River last night, it think we would have not seen nearly as many East fans and thousands of Elk River fans. It's easy to criticize when it's in your back yard. I'm not making excuses for the game, Elk River was out played thoughout the game. East is big, fast and good. But you really can't argue what a huge home ice advantage it was.
I don't beleive it had any outcome in the game last night, but it may in the future.
As for the end of the 2nd, Tardy should have been thrown out of the game. He was the third in, and without any provocation threw 3-4 punches to an Elk River by-stander. There was no way the Iron Range Refs were going to toss the East star.
Then to penalize ER. Wow. That's when people start talking about home cooking.
Put this section final in a truly neutral site and you won't hear whining about it anymore. Until that happens, every year we will just write the thread.
Good luck to the Greyhounds at State. They are a great 7AA representative and have a shot at going deep into the tournament.

Sorry, there simply is no completely neutral site that can fit this section.
Now, some useless stats.
This is Duluth East's 10th tournament appearance under the AA format, the most of any school, though Moorhead has 11 if we count the years of the tier format.
This is the 11th state tournament in 19 years for East, and 16th overall.
This is Mike Randolph's 10th state tournament in 20 years at the helm. This appearance moves him out of a tie with Russ Welch of Hastings for the most among active coaches. He is now tied for 8th in all-time history with Terry Skrypek of Hill-Murray.
In their most recent 10 tourneys, East has finished in the top 3 nine times (2 1sts, 3 2nds, 4 3rds).
Since AA began in 1994, section 7AA teams have finished in the top 3 in 12 of 15 tournaments.

1) Congrats to Duluth East - clearly the best team in Section 7AA advanced to State this season.
2) The Section 7AA game belongs at the DECC...and should actually be played next season at the "New DECC", which is scheduled to open December 31, 2009.
3) However...if ER, Anoka and Andover remain in 7AA indefinitely...because Duluth Marshall, Hermantown and Hibbing (BTW - none of which made State this season) - continue to be content to compete for the Class A title
...then eventually some type of every other year rotation system WILL be implemented...like it was in the 1980's....the National Sports Center at SCSU would be the best venue available.
4) The only other solution...and the most logical for that matter... is to play the 7AA Final game on a Saturday afternoon - one week after the Semi-Finals - at 3pm...then we would truly see how many ER, Anoka or Andover fans show up...and the travel would be less of a prpblem for the cities teams or even Grand Rapids for that matter...of course the MSHSL probably would balk at this idea...because it extends the play-offs by a day or two.
5) In any event ....good luck to DE at Excel...bring home a trophy...a big one!
