Yeah, you know, since it's so much further away than a trip to TRF and all...

Yeah, thanks to TTpuckster. Excellent view, although the driveway is a bit steep.

I don't have the solution for the long term, but I have some advice for the here and now. Get this to travel to TRF three times and YES: It Can Happen.

Those look like PR colors, yet more people than the entire town's population!

Warroad has won most of the section titles the last several years no matter where the tourney was played. In the last three years of the rotation: Last year Warroad won in EGF by beating TRF although TR pounded EGF in their own rink in the semis so no home ice advantage there. The year before TRF beat Warroad in Warroad in the final. The year before that Warroad beat TRF in TRF in the final. What matters most is whether the tourney teams bring their A game every night, not where they play. Just like everyone else, PR will either prove capable of it or they won't.

Having the section tourney at a neutral site makes zero sense. Why on earth would any team within the section want to drive to Grand Rapids, or Moorhead for that matter. The two best rinks in the state for high school hockey are within section 8a. Personally I think the section should boot EGF from the rotation, and alternate between TRF and Warroad.

at the very least section 8A should have the quarterfinals at the higher seed like most of all the other sections, for starters...the driving 3 hours for every sectional game gets a little old

2hrs 45.."about"(3hrs on the bus)......but I dont see any harm having it held at a neutral site...closest to most teams ,with enough seating capacity....and home ice does matter...home anything matters....make it as fair as possible...things CAN be changed....

It's all about revenue people. The three rinks that hold the most people are the three rinks that are in the "rotation." I liked the one guy saying they should have it in Park Rapids...hah. Do 250 people get to sit and the rest stand? I honestly think we have the best system in the state. Every other section plays in the same rinks everyone season. We get a little variety.

I have never driven to TRF from PR, but it can only be 120 miles.
Bemidji is 90 miles and 1 1/2 hours, easy.
You must go up through Bagley. Bagley is an hour plus a bit, bus or not, to TRF.

PR to Bagley must be an hour, no more.

But I understand your argument about a neutral site.
If/when Bemidji builds the new arena similar to the little ralph and Bemidji jumps back up or qualifies as such, it would make a nice site for the section 8A event.

But I really do like going to EGF and TRF for section 8A games.
Playing the quarters at high seed makes sense also, but playing them at the larger venues also gives those players a chance to feel like part of the whole event and gives all teams a game in that venue to settle in before teh semis and finals.

So I can see it both ways. I don't see it changing anytime soon.

(Not that I don't like Warroad and their rink, but its is 131 to Roseau and then another 20 miles - difficult to go, watch, come home and then do it again and then again.)

Are there any real plans in progress right now to build a rink in Bemidji?

8A @ Bemidji works for me. The Fleet can navigate the 86 four-lane miles quite easily.

Yes, some of the land has been purchased and agreements are being drawn up for some.

Presentations are ready to go to the legislature.

It is moving forward and possible land breaking ceremonies this summer.
