If government didn't pay for roads would they exist and would you be as free to travel as you are now? Government, through you and me, builds these roads and because of that the private sector gets to ship their goods to market for very low cost and make profits for their companies. Do I care if 494 gets a fourth lane? No, it very rarely affects me; maybe twice a year, but it's in the good of some people so they can do it. Building Interstate highways was for the military originally, but it also helped kill the mom and pop stores and let the Sam Waltons of the world get filthy rich. So the government helps Carl Pohlad out and gets him a new stadium, how is that different from giving the Minneapolis Airport money? (NWA basically runs the show) Or building a highway to a factory, or rezoning land so you can have a house where a farm once operated, or building roads to a new devolopment increasing suburban sprawl? It all comes from government and somebody in the private sector benefits financially, be it a developer, builder, or factory owner. Government steps in and helps the private sector in more ways than you realize. Some just aren't as open as a stadium.

They build them because a market failure occurs i.e. there is no way of excluding people from wanting to use them, unless it is through tolls. Governments should only produce things for which the market cannot efficiently do so. I am sorry but baseball stadiums are of no benefit to someone who doesn't like baseball. Your arguments are incorrect in terms of how the economy works. Politicians are why things are, the way they are.

Torii was mashing the ball today, as was White. White stung the ball 3 times, but only had one hit to show for his efforts. T. Hunt went yard, very deep off Garcia. Then, he just missed knotting the game up at 6 off of McCarthy when he flew out to the fence on a 3-0 pitch with the bases loaded. Scoring isn't my biggest concern right now, our pitching is. It's going to be tough to pull it off tomorrow, the Sox are rolling and Contreras is on the mound. He has been money ever since the home stretch of last season. Hopefully Silva can put forth a solid effort and put his early season struggles behind him. We need Castillo and Stewart back badly.

Twins go down 9-0 on another stellar start by Radke. Someone brought up Brett Boone earlier, so here are Rondell White and Brett Boones stats. 2005 Brett Boone: Games 17, AB 153, Avg .170, HR 0, RBI 3 2006 Rondell White: Games 20, AB 180, Avg .150, HR 0, RBI 4 The only major difference being Seattle was paying Boones salary, the Twins are on the hook for White's 2.5 million. Who in the scouting department gets paid to find these guys? Torii Hunter just fell below .200 and Morneau could very easily by the end of tommorrow. There's not a whole lot of help down on the farm either, aside from Kubel (.333) and Josh Rabe (.412) but neither have a lot of power. I'm starting the can Gardy cry now, he brought a near worthless 4-8 part of the line up north. Redmond should be the DH, White needs to go to Rochester until he finds his swing, they just can't keep sending a sub .200 guy out there in the clean up spot, that's managing. Gardy is over matched period.

New Current scoring drought = 12 2/3rds innings If it gets to 13 2/3rds that means the Royals just picked up their first road win of the year. Justin Verlander, Joel Piniero, Jimmy Gobble, Kenny Rogers, and Jeremy Affeldt can now be added to the ever growing list of future Hall of Famers to shut down that Twins juggernaut of a lineup.

New drought sits at 12 innings and counting.

What a crappy lineup tonight. Tiffee, Kubel, Punto, and Cuddyer all playing in the same game together, that doesn't even include Morneau and Batista. The only character missing from this collection of soft bats is Mike (Michelle) Ryan and Lew Ford. Maybe they can get in the act tommorow.
