?Please explain
Not much to explain. Not a great hire (IMO). Good guy, just not what many would look for in a HS program that has to fight to keep kids. IMO, goalies need to coach goalies. I know this might ruffle feathers....but I've seen it far to many times that former goalies do not make the best coaches.

What is his track record coaching? Not much. Summer AAA is not the breeding ground for producing the kind of coaching needed to run a successful HS program.

Just my $.02

I guess time will tell. I'll eat my words if I'm wrong (but I won't be)

Can you put a link to the national camp list on the thread?

If I'm dumb enough to subscribe to YHH, then why would I be dumb enough to post their list on here.

Have a nice day.

I'm not buying that YHH would post invite lists for the 16s and 17s before MN Hockey would make anything available. The 15s are public so maybe some misinterpretation or speculation? :?:

From the New Ulm Journal:

NEW ULM - Erik Setterholm, who has been the head boy's hockey coach at New Ulm High School for the past nine seasons, has resigned.

Old School: I was thinking the same thing but thought it was just my perspective.......... Does anyone know who was on the committee that selected the coach? Just wondering if Lakeville Souths hocky people were involved...........

What I don't understand is how LS campaigned for years and years and years to get Weber out, somehow they finally got it done, you would think they would really make sure they got this hire correct. They needed something to stop the bleeding over to LN. I have a hard time believing there weren't more qualified applicants. Sorry to say, this simply won't do it. Oldschool and nahc are right. I think the exodus of top end kids at LS continues and this program will stay light years behind LN. I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong if otherwise, and wish the new staff the best of luck, but just don't see it happening.

Lake South coach

Post by hockey below the cities »

I'm confused with all due respect to Lake North and the Amazing team they had last year But don't they lose a lot .....and with the people returning and leaving (and some seniors are leaving).
Is North going to be the destination Place ?
I don't see it.

what do they have coming up?
Rumors all over Eigner is gone to St cloud state ?????
and after this year doesn't Lakeville South have the younger kids ?

I think people maybe surprised How South Does.
maybe it does take a year or 2 but South seems to be setup quite well

Is it possible the LVS hire was to keep a goalie in the system who otherwise would be gone? I have no information to believe it was, just speculating. Keeping a top quality goalie could lead to other quality players staying. Also, LVN's talent pool, on the LVN side alone, is deeper than it has ever been with maybe the exception of goalie. After Edquist, who is there that could be a difference maker in net? LVS has a difference maker in its pipeline. Also, it won't be as easy for LVS kids to squeeze out LVN kids, so why run the risk of not getting a varsity spot by making the jump over to LVN? The LVS kids that have been high-end youth players over at South, with the exception of Olsen, are mostly undersized, while LVN has some really good sized kids in the pipeline who can skate.

Which seniors are leaving? (Since this is your first post I am sure you can shed some light). They return a top 10 senior (Max Johnson), a top 5 junior (R. Poehling), top 15-20 junior (Henry Enebak)...Tommy Klans, while small, has great puck skills and should produce 35-40 pts next year. Taylor Schneider will be a senior after putting up over 40 pts last year as a junior, Keaton Pehrson is going to lead the d core and if Edquist stays, watch out. The kids returning play with SUPREME confidence.

Eigner going to SCSU? Rumors all over? Elaborate.

How well south does? Swaney is gone. Knoepke gone to Ann Arbor. Ess and Olsen sticking around after next year remains to be seen.

I'll say it again as I have several times since March, not only will LN be back in St. Paul come March, they very well could be the marquee game again on Sat night.

Which seniors are leaving? (Since this is your first post I am sure you can shed some light) my other handle was accidently deleted . They return a top 10 senior (Max Johnson) Sioux Falls pushing hard , a top 5 junior (R. Poehling) watch out Green Bay, top 15-20 junior (Henry Enebak)...Tommy Klans, while small, has great puck skills and should produce 35-40 pts next year. Taylor Schneider will be a senior after putting up over 40 pts last year as a junior, Keaton Pehrson is going to lead the d core and if Edquist stays, watch out. The kids returning play with SUPREME confidence. Edquist is gone and you know that

Eigner going to SCSU? Rumors all over? Elaborate. Cmon your connected and I know you've heard them

How well south does? Swaney is gone (I wouldn't be so fast on that) . Knoepke gone to Ann Arbor. Ess and Olsen sticking around after next year remains to be seen.

Never said I know all and that others didn't know anything. To be honest, unlike most people, I really am NOT concerned with what other people think of me! Especially on a HS hockey message board. Gave that up in junior high.

You stated several things as if they were facts. I rebutted them. You gave your answers back. I think LS has a long uphill battle and LN will be a force for many years to come. The groundwork has been laid. You can argue that if you want.

I agree that LVN will be solid again next year, great goal tending and a really solid group of returning forwards. The big question will be how the blue line performs. Not many teams in the last 20 years have had as good a group on D as north had last year. 6'5", 6'3" ,6'2" and 5'11". 2 D1 kids and maybe the best of them choosing baseball over hockey. When things got tight this team played only 4 so even if the group replacing them is talented they lack experience. As good as the offense was last year it was the D core that really made the team so formidable. I'm just not sure it's that easy to replace the 300 or so games of experience on the back end. Hell, if these guys in the wings are that good I'm surprised they didn't bolt to a school where they could play.

No question here. Lets be honest, they really didn't get the ink they deserved either. Everything was about their scoring and top 2 forward lines. Top 4 D they had were really as good as you are gonna see on a HS hockey team. The d they have next year will be good but nothing like last season.

Not sure I'd agree about th best D in 20 yrs. I think in 2008 Minnetonka had Gardiner,Jensen,Holl, Riola, Prochnow who all played D1. With Gardiner a 1st round draft pick, Wis. All-American, Jensen Penn State, Riola UMass, Holl Uof M,Prochnow SCSU.

Prediction: within five years we'll be rooting for a joint Irondale/Mounds View high school varsity program, both boys and girls. They won't be successful within 5 years, numbers-wise, without high school mergers on both sides.

Hence ....I stated "not many teams" this leaves room to recognize groups like the one from Tonka. I never said best in 20 years. Simply pointing out they'll be tough to replace. BTW...How did the skippers never win a title with all that talent?
