I thought maybe the biggest key was Hill is smaller and out-hit MG.
I can splash in the rink puddles!

I don't care how many supposed all-stars that Hill has, when you can return 1 defenseman and 5 forwards, an a new starter, and become the team that Hill is right now, it has everything to do with coaching. MG returned almost every player from last year and has just as much skill as Hill. Coaching wins championships. Period.
Quite a few of the Hill Murray players were the best in their youth association. If being able to "manage All-Stars" represents the state's best coach..........
You told me not to get carried away saying Lechner was the best HS coach in the state. I asked who's better and you have this smart a@! Response bc you realize I'm right. Whos ur pick bojangles? Maybe Plante from Hermantown is close. Other than that, no one.
Ken Pauly (BSM) seems to have the same advantages. Is he another coach that does a great job of "managing All Stars". Would they even be known if they coached for Cooper?

Relax bud!

Pauly isn't even close to Lechners level. Good recruiter average coach. Ok, I'll settle down!

I picked MG, and I was waayy wrong. HM surprised a lot of people today.

Biggest key for HM, that I noticed, was they controlled their defensive zone. MG had a difficult time controlling play offensively because HM's defense stepped it up and Dugas was solid.

Besides that's HM's offense showed their true potential. Game over.

And on another note, Lechner is among one of the best coaches in the State.

Lechs is an excellent coach, but also give credit to Pat Schafhauser. All the players that come through HM program realize what a huge part of the equation he plays. Outstanding hockey player, excellent hockey mind, and phenomenal role model for the team.

Way to go Pioneers!! You did yourselves proud!

I don't pay any attention to the argument that a coach has it 'easy' because they have 'all-stars'. The bottom line is that these are kids and the Hill coaching staff (all of them) have their teams playing best down the stretch and more specifically at the X. This indicates good coaching, period.

Lechner plugged Schafhauser in the post-game press conference. After Plante (who is a riot), he's given the most interesting press conference of the Tourney so far.

Still has a ways to go to top Randolph. Perhaps Lechner will prove it over the next few days.

There was a tweet by Chris Long of KSTP:

Maple Grove student section not handling loss well. May hear from MSHSL about a few off-color chants they dropped today. #StateHockey

Anyone know what was said or anything about it that was there?

So what did Coach "L" have to say in his post game wrap up? "Well I have to thank the Hill Murray Youth Hockey Association for giving me such a talented group of players to work with!" or was it "Our community is very proud of their boys and how they put their hearts on the line day in and day out!"

Well all I know for sure is after Maple Grove's first trip to State I think it's safe to add their players, parents, fans, and pretty much their entire city to the WE HATE PRIVATE SCHOOLS FAN CLUB!!!

Might I make one suggestion. Why doesn't HM have all their players wear the logo of the youth association they came from on their shoulder so some of these associations (Mahtomedi, Princeton, North St Paul, Woodbury, White Bear Lake, etc, etc, etc...) could get some props for developing these kids. I mean WHAT the NHL All Stars wear their teams logo on their jerseys. Just thinking out loud!!!!!!!!!

Seeing some "sour grapes" comments.

Be happy your team made it, and congratulate the players. That's all that matters.

congrats to the youth associations, they developed players. Where does it say these players HAVE to go to the public school? Get over it.
