Cloquet has Andover at home and Duluth Marshall in Duluth. This week will ultimately decide who's 4, 5, or 6 seed. Elks, Rapids, and East locked into top 3 seeds no matter what happens in section year in and year out.

After McLaughlin and Hain leave. Rapids will not be a top three seed. Their past bantam teams have not been at the high level they were previously. I see Cloquet and Marshall moving ahead of them and if Andover's good youth teams translate into a good high school team they may see themselves at #6. If Hermantown opts up they will probably be a higher seed too, although that will most likely move Elk River or Andover to Section 5.

But they are juniors. They will be back.

Grand Rapids, East, and Elk will always, forever be in the top 4 seedings. The 4th seed is always up for grabs. Blah, blah.blah. It would take the end of the world to change that fact.
As you post states "forever be in the top 4 seedings". My post was disagreeing with the "forever" part. Also is it a 100% guarantee that McLaughlin and Hain will return for their senior year?

I don't think GrandRapids looses elite talent early. They will be around next year as well. Also, the Indians have 2 elite young goaltenders. Plus, they have coach Klatt. And that town is Hockey nuts! I guess the word forever is a stretch.

One thing I have learned in 40 plus years of watching is that if you win a couple of big games in late February, nobody will remember what the records are at the beginning of January.

Question: Would it be Andover or Elk River that leaves 7AA if Hermantown ever opted up?

That's a good question. I think the consensus was that it would be Elk River but you never know.

Andover is south of Elk River so it would make sense by a map that Elk River stays in 7AA.

Hermantown, Duluth East, Grand Rapids, Elk River, duluth Marshall, Cloquet. That's a crazy section

If Cloquet went down to A, they would just become another Hermantown. Not very attractive to mop up on A competition in the playoffs.

GR at Hermantown tomorrow night on ifantv. Then at Duluth East Thursday night. I think that one is game of the week on Lets play hockey.

I would imagine those two games will be pretty eventful. They usually are.

2 good games for the fans. I think Hermantown will win at home. The Indians I think will defeat Duluth East in Duluth. Grand Rapids has that top line and to great goaltenders, but Hermantown's got 3 great #1 lines and 1 Elite goaltender. As far as the East/Rapids game, I just don't think East has the depth and/elite goaltending. They've got coach Randolph though. And that a huge ad. +Rivalry game. Hmmmm. My head says Rapids, but my heart says East. All I know is that this game/fans/Crowd/media/ will be electric on this one. It's probably safe to assume Rapids has overtaken Cloquet as far as rivalry with the Greyhounds of Duluth East.

They haven't had a lot of success vs. Hermantown over the years. One thing this group has done though was get past East last year and Eden Prairie this year. That was 2 teams that usually had their way with Orange and Black. Maybe they can knock down another wall on Tuesday.

East 4, Denfeld 1, Final. Shots 54-15. The first period was a slopfest and Denfeld grabbed the early lead, but a scrum early in the second lead to a major penalty against the Hunters, and the Hounds scored twice. Kevin Smalley was not pleased. It was never really interesting after that, with the East cycle machine in full force and a lot of very nice saves by Benjamin LaFont to keep it somewhat close. East got there eventually, but will need a much stronger start to have a chance on Thursday.

Smalls mad at the refs or player?

Refs, both for the major penalty and another minor later in the period. Couldn't tell you if the major was legit or not; there was a scrum and both teams got double minors in addition to the major on Denfeld. I didn't see the call later in the period that really set him off; can't really make a call on that one, either. They talked to the refs for a long time after the players went off at the end of the 2nd, with one assistant lingering for a good five minutes and the refs indulging him for some reason.

But, on the flip side, the refs also waved off an East goal for a dislodged net, and if it was off, it had been off for a very long time. Not the greatest night for the stripes.

After last nights extra curricular activity after the final horn is it a given that GR will be short two D men on Thursday?

If so, it will be interesting to see how they adjust.

I believe they will have a game suspension for the majors and zero minute penalties last night.

Of course now if they do get another one during the season I believe that it being their 2nd GM they would sit out 4 games..
