These section final games are arguably better than watching the state tournament. I think the atmosphere of a packed arena definitely helps the section games. Other than some of the games at Ridder, the state tourney has rarely felt as electric. I would guess, though, that for the kids on the ice, ...

I thought that the Apple Valley boys would have nothing left after their marathon semi versus Duluth East in the '90s, but that isn't how it played out. Never underestimate the heart of a champion. I'm expecting a good game tonight.edgeless2 wrote:If history holds Tonka will have nothing left in the tank.

Palmquist is still the best coach in either girls or boys IMO. I agree that he is an excellent coach. At a certain point, it is hard to compare, because there are so many coaches that do a great job and they each are dealt different hands in terms of talent. But Palmquist definitely plays his hand ...

Over the years my impression is that the main thing that has kept Wayzata from doing better is a lack of prolific scorers. That appears to be the case again this year as their top point producer has just 20 points, and no one else is averaging a point a game. Meanwhile all of the better teams in th...

BSM doesn't really play a first line, second line and third line. This game was my first time to watch BSM, and I was impressed by their depth up front. Alicia Praus stood out during warmups, and when she was on the third line over the boards, that told me something about the quality of the forward...

On the other hand, teams can't just drift through the regular season, treat the games as glorified practice, and assume that once the postseason starts and games do matter that they'll be able to flip a switch and start winning. Teams have to learn how to win, and in general, teams are better at the...

Re: Playing every minute of the Class A title game
And for sure it would have been more difficult without all of the TV time outs, which is pretty much akin to taking a shift off. The trap in a game with TV timeouts, at least from what I've seen at the college level, is that if you keep bringing the same kids back on a quicker rotation because they...

However I would not count Minnetonka out - they are playing very well right now, and if weren't for some great goaltending plus some bad luck last night Tonka wouldn't have needed the extra session to win that game. Minnetonka also got some good luck on Friday. The clear the length of the ice by th...

Perhaps you have a legitimate question, but you picked a poor example. In the games that I've seen Brandt, she skates what is mostly a normal shift for a top-line HS player, flies around distributing the puck, and then leaves the ice. She isn't coasting around trying to conserve energy in order to r...

Only has played STATE at the Xcel, which made it different and special. It's about the girls, and if they love the Xcel - that's where it should be. I'm still trying to think of somebody that I could ask that played a championship-bracket State Tournament game in both venues. It would likely be som...

I wonder how it worked out years ago... Maybe that was before the two classes of 8 teams per class tourneys... I can't remember now - it's been a while. I believe it was last at Ridder in the days of 8 teams in AA, 4 teams in A. Somehow they made those 8 teams work, but after a few years in Xcel, t...

I don't believe we can poll the players as they don't know what it's like to play in a packed Ridder (or packed anything for that matter usually). I have been to some section games over the years that have been pretty packed, and the atmosphere is great with big contingents of fans from each compet...

Regarding Brandt and USA camp, "Greatest" label
Rachel Ramsey attended the same USA Hockey holiday camp last season; in the long run, that worked out okay for Minnetonka. If Hannah Brandt can take away something from the camp to improve her game that could potentially help the Pioneers come tourney time, then it isn't a bad trade for them. As for...

Fitting in Ridder
I understand what people are saying about the atmosphere in Ridder for a HS game when it is full. I remember NSP vs SSP when it was held there. But even if the girls preferred to play in Ridder, hasn't the tournament grown to the extent that it would no longer fit in Ridder? Some of the AA games att...

College Hockey
Like most things in life, it is not one size fits all. It is wonderful that players have post-HS options like D-I, D-III, and even club.OntheEdge wrote:Playing D1 sports is very demanding of a student's time and some girls have different priorities.

Reasons for Low Attendance
I agree with the others; your poll needs more options to have any meaning. Most of the people that I've heard complain about girls/womens hockey have never watched it. I get frustrated watching a game like the Warroad/Breck boy's semifinal game where players are so amped up to throw big checks that ...

Minnesota Players in Frozen Four Field
Any one out there have the Minnesota girls that are on the rosters for these two tourneys and where they went to HS handy. Would be nice to see a list, seems to me that there were some that went to Norwich last year. Here are the players with Minnesota roots competing in the National Collegiate Fro...
