2010- 2011 D1 Commitments
Great for Minnesota girls- however I mostly applaud the girls in Minnesota hockey that can let high school hockey go (and sports in general) and move unto a college career in which they can focus on academics and not hockey. Many players choose second rate colleges just to play hockey- parents and p...

Northfield- Nova penalties pretty even. Power rankings this early in the season are not good predictors (not enough data). Coaches are still switching lines and players to build the team they want to head into conference play with in January.

Northfield= 23 shots on goal
Novas= 35 shots on goal
Power rankings are a poor indicator because they are based on historical performance and not the capability of the team.

Best game of the tournament was the Northfield- Novas game as both teams were closely matched. Novas outshot Northfield in both the second and third period. Northfield is physical and has solid goaltending. If the tournament wouldn't have seeded these two teams against each other, both would have ad...

Coachings Openings
Most of the coaching openings that are posted on the MSHL website that you specifically mention have been filled. I can't explain why openings that have been filled for 6 months- one year are still posted on the MSHL website but either way, looking at postings from 2007 and assuming in 2008 that the...

Well, my 2 (Mpls Novas)- 1 (Stillwater) prediction is only a prediction and I certainly have been wrong before. It is true that the Novas play a weaker section then Stillwater so who knows it may be a Stillwater blowout. I guess we'll see when the final score is in.

You are correct- Novas and Stillwater goalies are tied at nine shutouts each for the season. Both goalies have had tremendous seasons. I am just questioning the rationale with the comment about the White Bear Lake goalie- show me the data that supports the assumption that their goalie is the best. W...

Why would you say that White Bear Lake has the best goalie in the state? The Minneapolis Novas Sr. goalie is leading the state in shoutouts with 9 so far this season. Do we assume that the suburbs have the best goalies just becuse they are the suburbs? Maybe so- but please explain...

Our team just returned from this tournament and said that the folks running the tournament were just great- especially those folks in the penalty box. Kudos to Austin for running such a great tournament.

The Minneapolis Novas will never be ranked, just because they are from the City- regardless of their talent and depth. People from Minneapolis understand that early on in their season and frankly, do not care what the polls say- just like Minneapolis Southwest is ranked as one of the best high schoo...

Minneapolis Novas will have no problem beating Mankato West- unless the QFR rankings are totally hosed up- which is possible. Mankato West is ranked much lower then Richfield. Richfield wasn't even in the game against the Novas until a 5-3 penalty in the last couple of minutes- they somehow eeke out...

Richfield is clearly over-rated- living off of last year's records and talent. Mahtomedia is rated lower then Richfield but is a significantly more talented team. After seeing this play out- who can trust ratings at all- seems like a waste of ffort.

Great game. Novas leading with 2 minutes left. Breck scores a short-handed goal to tie it up in the third period. No scoring in OT.

The Minneapolis Novas beat Totino-Grace in pre-season scrimmages today. Eagan is quite a team- watch for them to do well this season.

The role of parents
Since some of us parents never played competitive sports and have children playing high school sports, if we have a genuine concern, what is the most appropriate way to address issues? Generally it is not desired to intervene but what if there is a real concern, how should parents deal with coaches.

ghshockeyfan probably had the healthiest response to the issue and if all teams took the thoughtful approach to the national anthem there would never be an issue. Maybe I was too quick to jump to conclusions but as a vet it rubbed me the wrong way.

Staright forward, the Holy Angels JV playing at Veteran's Memorial Ice Arena in Inver Grove Heights during a JV tournament did not remove their helmets during the national anthem while playing Simley and the Minneapolis Novas. That is all that I saw over the last two weeks... plain and simple, that ...

Junior varsity or varsity Holy Angels- either way it still represents the same school and it is a blemish on the high school overall. Because I have not seen other schools do likewise I cannot personally indict them of a similar offense- it may be that other schools may have committed an injustice t...

Very dissappointed in Holy Angels. For a "premier" hockey program, one would think that that the team would have the respect to remove their helmuts during the national anthem as every other team does. I'm a Vietnam veteran and spent many years in psychological operations and counseling ve...
