If they do this like they are proposing then the physical play will be the same minus the open ice blow up checks and the checks where they are clearly trying to intimidate without playing the puck. You can still go in the corners and use your body in a physical manner to establish body position on ...

According to the Dave Margenau the President of MN Hockey, they will follow the USA Hockey Checking rule even though they don't agree with it. I could be wrong but I don't think I am. Minnesota Hockey has voted to ask for a 1 to 2 year exemption from the new USAH checking rule because of many concer...

Wisconsin Voted at the WAHA Meeting this weekend, that if USA Hockey passes the Body Contact Rule they will follow suit. MN Hockey's President was there and said they will follow the rule as well if it passes with USA Hockey. Our association President was at the meeting and supposedly MN Hockey's Pr...

I'm not sold on the changes either but I understand what they are trying to get rid of. I tell my kids that they need to focus Hands on Hands so they aren't getting checking from behinds or head contacts. In the beginning of the year I had 3 kids get checking from behind penalties and sit in the box...

Take Checking...Don't take Checking away? Do we really know

Do we really know what the hell USAH is doing with this checking rule? I have talked to many about this rule and most are furious and some with small kids who are afraid to compete in the checking are welcoming this proposed rule change. I talked to a USA Hockey Rep and he said they are not taking b...

Talked to a rep with USA Hockey and he said the are NOT eliminating checking. He said they are trying to write a rule that would eliminate the big blow up checks. He said they want to get the kids to play the puck while playing the body which would eliminate checks with the intent to injure. He also...

Elliot yes you are correct the the ruling would effect the fire, however I was not talking about the fire. There is a little thing at the made called the Pee-wee supplemental league and my guess is next year it won't be supplemental. Trust me I am not a big made fan, but if they take checking away ...

You don't just shut something down because it's not perfect!! You make it better by improving the way you do it. Eliminate the big blowup checks and start enforcing playing the puck 1st checks 2nd and you will see a big difference in the safety of the game in my opinion. You people who believe they ...

This could be so simple but I doubt that will be the case with USA Hockey. Eliminate the checking while not playing the puck, another words, "Hands on Hands". If you don't have "Hands on Hands" you are going to the box. I coach and under the current rules we teach our kids like m...

Never? No Way?

I have seen kids do it both ways. I have seen kids play out there first 3 years in mini mites (mite 1's) and then make their decision to play full time in Mites and I have seen kids try both in Mite 2's and not lock in until Squirts. Both have played well enough to make A teams in Squirts, last year...

Just found this post and it is quite interesting to see the different perspectives. I think the Wings and LSS have the two top programs in the North. The Storm, Bulldogs, etc are quite a bit weaker than these teams. I can only speak for the 97 level, but I find it really sad that the Stars and Wing...

Re: More about the Machine than the Wings

More of a comment about the Machine than the Wings. They beat the Wings by a large margin last year so I guess I'm wondering if the Wings took this large of a step forward or did the Stars wear them down. I heard the Stars game was a very physical game, so that may be the case. I just want to hear ...

Were the 99 maverick up there? they looked pretty good the night I saw them. Coached by Scott Bujstead all stillwater kids. Mavericks were there and they are a solid team. For the 1st tournament of checking they played really well with the hitting. It got pretty physical with these 99 teams. Fun to...

99 Northern Wings skate with the Machine?

Sounds like the Machine took the Wings lightly. Is this the case? I am curious about this game if anyone was there. Wings are a decent team but the way everyone raves about the Machine I am shocked the score was tied going into the 3rd and the Machine won by only 2 goals. Machine beat the stars by 5...

One of the major qualities of a good head coach is that he has mastered the art of communication to the point where he can get his point across to the players without having to yell, scream and break sticks. Screaming and breaking sticks I agree with. But yelling is an emotion that is not evil like...

What I do want to say is I h...
