As a stay-at-home D's dad I heartily agree.

The problem is - who does the evaluating and where is it published? Us mere mortals in the bleachers can only get what's printed in the newspaper as far as I know.

My kid has been *actively* recruited by an EP coach but we have declined.

Re: Re:New Edina Coach
True, Mark was 2nd choice. I don't have facts but think about it - Dave Palmquist was # 1 but the Edina school system did not have a teaching position open for him. If he stayed at SSP for teaching, he'd have to drive across town on I-494 (or part way on 62) to get to Edina after school, and return ...

Re: checking
Having been very involved in the development of girls hockey in my association I will tell you that allowing checking in girls hockey will have a detriment impact on the number of players entering the sport. Many of the our young players have parents who have no hockey background. And believe me, it...

Re: Class of 2007
Better do a cross reference to the beloved Thoroughbreds. Anne Dronen is a T-bred for example. Does that disqualify her from the Class of 2007?

Re: Ms (future gopher) hockey
Question: In order to be a finalist for Ms Hockey do you have to play high school hockey or can you be eligible if you play for Shattuck or the Thoroughbreds?

Re: Re:New Edina Coach
Gary Evans will not be one of Mark Stephan's assistants. Mark Stephan's assistants will be Mark Heigl and Sam Cornelius. Mark Heigl has coached with Mark Stephan for the last several years in the Edina girls program and Sam Cornelius took over for Stephan when he stepped down as assistant varsity co...

It is the same. He has been coaching girls hockey for over 10 years at Edina. He coached their U12As to the state title in 2004.

Re: Re:New Edina Coach
The new Edina coach is Mark Stephan. Dave Palmquist had been offered the job, accepted, and was approved by the school board but for some reason then decided to not take the job. The job was then offered to Mark Stephan who accepted and has been approved. Mark brings over 10 years of experience in t...

Re: PALMQUIST TO EDINA
I'm an Edina parent and we're all as puzzled as anybody. The grapevine has been buzzing with the "news" but the school has been silent. Maybe the AD went on vacation or something? Calling the school has been unsuccessful for me.

Re: Andover
I heard that Bill Thoreson, late of Edina HS girls, is now the head coach for boys at Andover HS. I did a google search for his name and it led me to this URL:

www.ahyha.com/open_house.htm<!--EZCODE AUTOLI...

Re: Is anything fair
I never played but my daughter's do. The older one was in your son's spot, just missed varsity her freshman year (no JV that year) and was one of the last 2 cut. Next two years played JV and got to be on the bench for varsity in the last game only her junior year. Didn't bother trying out as a senio...
