I am not a frequent poster but wanted to give my two cents on the officiating of the WBL/STW game. If you are going by the book, you could make an arguement that each penalty that was called, should have been called. Unfortunately, when you make one checking call, you need to make them all. The easi...

I think it's worth noting that the Asst Coach was dealt with properly and won't be returning. The real tragedy is that his daughter is on the JV team. I hope the community and her teammates embrace her during this difficult time.

No need to "name names." Anyone who is familiar with the WBL program knows who you are talking about. There is no place in the game of hockey (boys or girls) for the detestible behavior we witnessed at last night's game. All this player had to do was go to the box after her penalty (which...

The problem isn't checking, it's the refs that refuse to call the blatant cheap shots and allow the game to get out of hand. I've seen it all too many times and chalked up to "let 'em play". If the refs would pull their whistles out of their pockets and call the interferences, boardings, ...

We saw total domination by HM, and it seems like it will continue as WBL youth program are in decline, and the area as a whole seems to be shifting a bit. As much hype as there was prior to the game, WBL played exponentionally worse than the hype. I understand there was a mismatch in team talent, b...

I agree that the officiating has been inconsistant and let me offer a few reasons. Number 1 - The girls game is getting more physical each year and most high school officials do not grow up officiating physical USA girls games. Number 2 - The change from the 2 Officials - 1 Linesman system to the 2 ...

Re: Results

I don't feel these scores mean anything this early. This is what I've heard. WBL 3 BSM 2 WBL 1 Breck 0 WBL 3 Eagan 1 WBL 7? Cooper 1 I wasn't in Duluth and don't know how the teams looked. The 14 goals scored by WBL were scored by 12 different players -- great balance. I was at the games and felt t...

Homer, You bring up good questions about the D2 coaching staff being from WBL & Roseville and a good portion of the girls are also from these areas. It would be good to mention that Roseville was the #1 rated team in the state and with the talent they have, I'm sure nobody is arguing with who ma...

rink rat, To my knowledge, the girls that made the team didn't miss any of the 4 hours/3 days of tryouts. There were two girls who were sick and didn't attend any of the tryout sessions. There may have been someone that arrived late but they were there all 3 days. The D2 team played their first play...

Homer, You bring up many good questions and concerns with the process. I am close enough to the district 2 process to assure you that what you heard was untrue. - nobody made the team that didn't attend and skate at tryouts. - nobody made the team because their father was the president of the associ...

WBL will always have the talent, it's whether they play as a team or individuals. They lost a solid defensemen (Galloway) and their top scorer (Fiala) but year after year, they restock the shelves with new talent. What can the coaches get out of the talent and are the players committed to working as...

I know this has been brought up before but it's worth repeating. Everything about youth hockey should be focused on the kids. It really doesn't matter what associations, parents, mn hockey, etc. think, as long as the decision is based on what the kids want. I personally love going to different arena...

It's a sad day when young men give of their time to better hockey players and an association, only to have it thrown back in their face. As an official that has refereed the NSP A Bantams many times over the past few years, it was finally fun to see a team that competed against the WBL's and Stillwa...

After reading some "referee" bashing, I thought I would add my two cents. I also ref (no, not D6) both HS and youth but my skates are hung up for the season, as are the majority of the experienced and higher level officials. Many of the refs you see now (spring & summer) are getting an...

I also agree with your assessment of Ness, Kuehl and McMillan. They are all great players. I just threw out the Brandt girl because she stuck out more to me......and no, this is not Greg, sorry!

Congrats to District 2 (16 players), District 16 (15 players), District 8 (13 players) and Distrticts 5&10 (11 players each). While it may be hard for the average fan to pick out the top players (especially 102 from approximately 240), it's not as difficult to pick out the top 10-15. From my sta...
