My math has privates winning 10 of the last 18 tourneys, runner-up 6 times and 3rd five times (unless A doesn't count, meaning we'd have to strip Falls of their most recent title). Catholics account for 8 of those championships. If you go back to '75, add 3 more championships - all Catholic. Just a ...

That salute was funny and another good moment - probably worked against LF, though. I thinkin' the Cadets took it personal.

The Slappy one mistakes me for something other than the Catholic I am. I KNOW we'll be well represented every year and almost take it for granted (I damn near forgot how good, and favored, AHA was last year. The argument when they win is that they played a weak schedule and didn't get all beat up). ...

In case nobody noticed, Little Falls was the 2nd best team in the A tourney.

Hanowski comes back and they're top three - if not, still top eight. Boat load of juniors on that team who have been to state twice (and drawn the #1 seed both times).

One great memory for me (and pleasant surprise) was how entertaining Mankato West and Little Falls were. Fast, solid teams that could hang with most anyone in either class. I'm guessing the Irishman was disappointed with the results in A and the lack of success from emerging teams, cuz I thought the...

Lots of interesting points - and BS, too. One thing for certain, strong v weak schedule and comparative scoring talk is total bunk. Have the same tourney five weeks in a row and you'd have five different results. I'm happy for the success of the local Catholic boys but fully recognize that the tourn...

I hate to admit when the MSHSL is right but I think the addition of Class A has done great things for hockey in formerly non-hockey markets (Fergus, Little Falls, Mankato, etc.). Plus, the level of play in the A tourney has really come a long way. Marshall Mankato was a better game to watch than Ros...

For you northern types - Bennetts on W. 7th & Victoria is owned by a guy from Eveleth - he played at Duluth with Hull - that's why he stops in. Great food, affordable and a shuttle to the X. Also a neighborhood dive called Skinners about a mile west of W 7th on Randolph - chow and bevvy prices a...

"Good luck at the Hooch where you belong"

Well, we know the referees sure think so...

Two very good skating teams. Shots didn't reflect the tempo at all. MW carried at least as much action as DM and I wish I could see them play again.

It's Roseau v Warroad, of course. As for the Govs v. Pioneer spat, being a Catholic St. Paul guy, I pull for 'em both. Must, however, point out some history to the Pioneer: St. Paul Johnson - 22 appearances, 4 State Champs, 3 Runners Up, 3 Thirds, 2 Consolation. Hill Murray - 21 apps, 2 State Champs...

Lighten up on Gorg already. The guy is tireless - works a billion games and the track as well. A bit excitable but that's what makes him worth talking about. Eyebrows notwithstanding, I've seen the grammar and spelling and he's a hell of a lot more articulate and insightful than most of the knuckleh...

Speaking of purple - there's a St. Paul team that has worn it fairly well... in several sports.

For Minnesota high school hockey, you gotta love green and white - whether you're a Ram, Hornet, Pioneer, etc. the green has mustered a lot of hardware and great memories for players and fans.

1) Roseau/St. Thomas
2) Benilde/Warroad
3) Hill/Cathedral
4) Edina/Marshall
5) Woodbury/Mankato
6) Blaine/Little Falls
7) Cloquet/Lakeville/Blake/Litchfield

Tie breaker 11.

FYI - Total goals for both tourneys is a good tiebreaker. 22 games opens it up.

Who is this Blake team?

Trying to pick my brackets and the more I look at Blake's season the more I feel like Alice in Wonderland - it gets curiouser and curiouser.

Pounded by CDH, Maple Grove, Owatonna and Lourdes, lose to Providence.

BUT... Play Burnsville to 0-2, beat Roseville and Woodbury.

What gives?

Lighten up, Francis. STA has been in the state tourney four times and won it once. One time. They compete with Cretin and even Hill Murray for east metro Catholic kids and there's a demanding entrance exam to get in. (I know some kids are not Catholic but the bulk of the team is). Let's face it. Mos...

Roseau 3-0.

Just watched my kid's team lose the district game that would have sent them to regionals - to a team we dominated twice in league play. Doubt Roseau will do the 'no show' (as our kids did) but a few key kids get sick and you never know...

It is too bad that this section will get the two-and-out hook again, but I also believe this is a state tourney. I miss the Regional brackets that weren't manipulated every two years (Anoka from Sect 7???). Also throw a bone to Lakeville for splitting their school (unlike other unnamed suburban behe...
