I'm a fan, it has opened up scoring, eliminated clutching and grabbing, and removed goons who can't skate from the game. What's your objection to the new rules?

I think it's hockey as it used to be. There is no more getting mauled in neutral territory, and the skilled players are being showcased more rather than bruisers. I personally feel they had to do this if they wanted to save a league that was in danger of going under.

Ya it shows some talent but the only reason their scoring is because they made the nets so much bigger and the goalie gear smaller.

I don't think it has made too much difference, but it is definetely positive change. You also have to keep in mind that hockey is a buisness, and the lack of scoring was preventing new fans and new sponsorships/t.v. deals. We used to be the laughing stock of the four major sports, and these new rules have brought back more respectability to the game.

The nets are no bigger, but yes, the goalies pad size has been reduced.

Guys like Theodore and Giguerre were getting by on their pad size alone, and now that they are forced to rely more on their quickness and positioning, they have struggled. It has allowed the players with more talent to shine through.

Nets

It was an idea tossed around but they felt it best to keep them the same. You're right on with the goalie pads though, they were reduced 11%.
