Bantam AA team ranking for 2014-2015 season

Post by Mnhockeys »

With association hockey tryouts coming up in about 2 month, summer high school STP finishing up, bantam elite lighting up, and freshmen thinking about playing high school or returning to Bantam, with all the things considered, which are the top Bantam AA teams this coming season?

Will another team be the self-claimed best team at the early season and only seeing it's heading the wrong direction? Will another northern team take the crown?

Who will rank top 10's in the state? Who will make to the state?

Edina should be better than last year, depending on who is still around. Lotta talk about players going to privates.

Should be high-end again this year ... I'm predicting a major fall-off from top 3 in state to most likely 6th or 7th next year (2015). Edina is falling apart at the seams.

Actually, last year the Edina BAA team was mediocre during the regular season. They had a nice run in the playoffs, knocking off EP in a surprise win, but they were not considered to be anywhere near Stillwater, EP, or ER, amongst others.

Next year they should be stronger.

Hard to know what the BAA teams will look like until you know/confirm the associations that are losing top player(s) to privates and HS teams. Any confirmed player "loses" from the top teams that were PWAA a couple years ago?

They were less than mediocre early in the season... And were probably the team that improved the most over the season. Impressive.

I said it....

I echo Bo's comments ... Edina's team had planned a tough schedule through scrimmages and tournaments. With some losses at the early season, then they improved the most through the season.

But, some other associations, no need to name who ... play AA hockey but coach scheduled 3-5 scrimmages against A level teams (weak associations with no AA level, and the A teams from associations with AA team). Don't understand why any coach wants to do this ... those teams are B level teams in the good old days. Is the winning record that important for a coach? If you have to play a A-level team in a tournament that is fine, but set up a scrimmage against a A-level team, do not see the point.

Any of the 2nd year Bantam hornets expected to play HS... Or will they all be back to run the table again this Winter?

Probably two at least of the second years will make HS. It's the top end first years coming in that will make or break their BAA chances this year. One or two might actually be good enough to make the HS, and there are rumors that there might be some more going to privates ( I.e. Shattuck).

Still should be a top team, but the amount of departures will tell whether or not they will be a dominant team. There are also some doubts whether some of the skilled, but small guys coming up from PW will make the adjustment playing with the big boys.

YHH reported today in their notes section that Edina BAA could lose 6-7 this year. That's a lot of talent. Good point regarding the 1st years making the adjustment... Size matters at that level.

What about the high school transfer kids?

STA kids to Sibley?

Benilde kids to Mpls?

Holy Family to (where would they go ... Chaska?)

There must be some big losses there.

Looks like Wayzata BAN B1 took 1st and 3rd at State last year.... Assume that means there is some depth to ease the loss of two to HS. Edina may have a harder time losing 6-7 as YHH predicts.

Other confirmed losses to HS for this upcoming season?

Are there more or less players jump to High School this year than previous years? How that affects the BAA teams in those associations?

Edina for sure 1, possibly 2 to Edina HS. Another at least 3 for sure I know of. SPA, STA, and SSM.

Rumors around the rinks 1 from Tonka (9) going to V. Big kid, but this seems like a recruiting move more than a deserved spot.
