Re: Thief River Falls vs Red Lake Falls
On the face it seems this is not a contest.
But for RLF this is THE game they want to win.
18 mile along MN highway 32 separates the two towns.
TRF is about 8900 people with about 520 or so school population.
RLF is less than 1500 people and under 100 school population.
TRF is usually in the fight for the #1 seed and RLF is seldom in the top 4.
BUT the game is in RLF. The arena is built for home ice advantage.
The Dept of Health has attendance limits but I would not be surprised if a few locals manage to slip in.
TRF is 2-3-1 on the season with a more difficult schedule.
RLF is 6-1 with the loss to a decent ND team that they might beat at home in a rematch.
They both beat Lake of the Woods.
RLF has beat bigger school Detroit Lakes this year.
They also beat Morris which St Cloud Cathedral barely got by in 3-2 game and beat North Branch.
But still...
what are the odds of little RLF with their tiny arena and few numbers can win the BIG game.
Well RLF has a decent goalie with a save pct greater than 90%.
AND they have a first line that can score goals. 33 goals in 7 games to be exact.
Evan Girdler with 8 goals and the Kennet brothers, Zak and Ty, with 13 and 12.
Because of my position I try and be neutral but sometimes you gotta root for the little guy.
No matter what, tonight's game is one of those times when hockey really is the spotlight in small town northern Minnesota.

Kennet brothers are a handful.
RLF's Top line is more talented, but TRF is deeper
