Lourdes vs. Blake recap

Post by LHSeagles21 »

Lourdes played their best game of the season Saturday afternoon against a Blake team that is supposed to be #2 in state. Lourdes was ranked #11. Lourdes scored about 5 minutes into the first form an excellent play by Brandon Bahnemann. The Blake Bears scored 2 pretty quick goals to take the lead 2-1. In the second period Eric Amundson took a low slap shot on the Blake goalie, he made a good save however gave up a rebound and Josh Anderson put the puck in the net. Going into the 3rd period the score was 2-2. In the 3rd period Freshman Tyler Voigt scored his first varsity goal on a one timerto put the Eagles up 3-2. Watch out for Voigt he will be a great player come late in the year. With a minute left Blake pulled their goalie with time goind down Blake scored with :37 seconds left of the game. In overtime Blake came down and scored to win the game and a heartbreaking loss for Lourdes. Lourdes played a great game and gave Blake a run for their money. the better team that game lost I believe.

Well, that certainly was unbiased.

Congrats to both these teams; Blake for getting the win and Lourdes for apparently the best performance in the history of hockey.

it's always that way when moms and JV players write reviews

;-)

Lourdes is still lacking a little depth... 17min periods and OT will not treat them well. they have a strong 1st and 2nd line and an okay 3rd line, and 2 lines of D, but you need at least a couple 4th line forwards and a decent 3rd D pair to play 56 minutes.

It's good that LHS bounced back against Blake and made a game of it. I expect good things from them, and it appears that Section 3 showed well against section 5 this weekend, and that can only be good for class A hockey.

so true. you make a good point bdabbt, i forgot how early this week everyone was saying "5A easily best section in class A" not so sure now after this weekend. Totino got owned by TRF, red wing beat breck, and lourdes kept it close with blake. well see what eveyone else thinks now.

In fairness, Blake did play Friday night and lost 6-1 to Cretin then had to turn around and play Lourdes Saturday afternoon. Blake isn't too deep, and a quick turn around is tough anytime of the year let alone in the first week.

Good post LHSeagle21. Although, somewhat biased (understandable) it's a heckofa lot better than some others maybe would have written. Regardless, it was an entertaining game, to say the least. Both sides gave a great effort, although IMO, Lourdes seemed to fade somewhat even before Blake pulled their goalie. Lourdes goalie, Josh Crowley I believe was in net that night, did an outstanding job for the Eagles. He made some outstanding saves that kept Blake off the board. One that comes to mind was the breakaway save on Mike Louwerse. Heck of a leg save on one of the top players in the State. No doubt this Eagles team is one not to take lightly. They should be even stronger next season with most of this group returning.

There's no question, Blake is struggling somewhat early in the season. The return later this week of Senior Captain Owen Holm will help. Both Holm and Senior defenseman Graham Miller were out for the game. Give some credit to the seniors that have stepped up to help where they can. Sr. Forward Mike Policinski, who scored the tieing goal, had been moved back to the blueline for the CDH game, remained there for Saturdays game.

Keep in mind, Hamre will run 4 lines most of the season whereas several teams will shorten up to 2 or 3. Blake went 7-5-1 the first half of season last year and finished up 19-7-1. Hamre WILL have this team playing to it's potential by seasons end.

Why were Holm and Miller sitting for this game? Who played well for Blake? Lourdes? Was this as close as the score indicates or were there some fluke goals?

Holm has been out the entire season so far with a knee injury, but he'll be back very soon. I believe Miller was sick, but I'm not sure.

Smooth Operator-

As I said in a different post. I was at the Blake Lourdes game and I actually thought Lourdes was the better team on Saturday. Lourdes was ahead with a minute left. Blake pulled there goalie and scored to tie it. Then they scored in O.T. to win it. Very good game. Lourdes was I thought the better team on Saturday and I am not even from Lourdes. Just went to watch a good hockey game and Boy was it ever a good one.

Bahneman had a nice goal on a backhand to put Lourdes up 1-0. Owen I did not even notice. And #9 for Blake had a breakaway that Lourdes goalie (not sure of his name) stopped kind of late in the game. Otherwise nobody for Blake played all that good. All of the goals for both teams were decent goals from what I remember.

lowerse is a very shifty player, should have a good season. he is very quick with his lateral movement on the ice.
