Thursday - Fink and Co. make a visit to the house that Ikola built

Friday - The "Jacks" led by Ellingson and Johnson return to the cities

Saturday - Ken Pauly's Skippers make a conference call on the Hornets.

Edina has a good chance of sweeping but i predict they will win 2/3 games

2/3 is a good prediction, but if they take the first two, they should take the last.

One thing I have pointed out before to keep in mind:
Of Edina's 25 (regular season) games
6 are away
5 are neutral
14 are home

[You could have two more neutral and two less home if you consider neutral games at your home site neutral]

Not trying to take anything away from Edina at all, but being a top 5 team AND playing ~60% of your games at home is pretty nice.

Does anybody think that home games for a metro team are really that big of a deal? I think that for some of the outstate schools this might be an issue because of travel times, but for the most part, you can get to just about anywhere in the metro within about a half hour, and it's not like when you get there, you'd be playing in front 15,000 home town fans.

Maybe it's just the fact that we didn't have a "home" rink when I played (technically Aldrich was "home" for us, but it was also "home" to just about every other east metro school!), but unless we went up north, it didn't really make that much of a difference where we played. I think the same could be said for Edina... I don't think they should necessarily be discounted because they play more than half their games at home. They're a good club.

P.S.... I realize I came off a bit snotty here, but I didn't mean to - it's a genuine question. Do people think that playing on home ice is that big of a deal for metro schools?

Well, Edina has been playing in that same rink for many years. Not saying you are incorrect about driving, but some of the "metro" teams they play aren't that close. Rosemount, for example, isn't right next door.

As for home ice, I can't speak to that, I'm not a hockey player. I played basketball and ran track. Being at your home court was just something familiar as was being on your home track. It was the place you practice every day, and there are usually more fans for you, which is nice.

I have talked to hockey player friends who actually played better away so really, I'm not too sure.

They will beat Hopkins and Tonka.

Aside from being from up north, why do you think that a team who gets shut out away in Grand Rapids will go down to the cities and beat Edina?

I'm with you Govs, with the lack of travel distance, still eating your meals at home, playing on the same sheets of ice while growing up, I don't think there is much disadvantage to playing road games in the metro area. I'm from Moorhead and when we traveled it was a big deal, your whole routine was thrown off. My son went to school in the metro area and for him road or home it really didn't matter, It's all just ice to him.

When I was making these road trips years ago, the biggest difference was we behaved oursleves at home. You put a bunch of kids in a hotel together and you never knew what kind of trouble we would get into. Of course I always behaved myself, but I know of teammates that slept 2 hours, got injured among other behind the secens issues. Honestly, I think that affected our play more than riding on a bus, eating out or sleeping in a strange bed. Very few locations have enough fan support to create an environment that can actually affect the play on the ice.

I think Edina will take 2 of 3 the only lose coming from CEC.

Because Cloquet is a better hockey team than Edina.

I think they will easily win the first one and if they win the second they will take the momentum and win the 3rd. But if they lose to Cloquet they could possibly not only be tired physically and mentally, but be a wreck from losing and lose to Minnetonka.

I think Edina will beat cloquet

If Edina loses to CEC, they do not lose to Minnetonka.... If anything they will win against Hopkins, easily then win a close one with CEC then lose to Minnetonka only because they would be tired....Should be fun anyway you look at it.
