I know it's real early for these kids, but...

The 8 - 7th graders & 5 - 8th graders on my current roster just started me thinking about this...

7th graders

One 7th grader's stats stand out:

Milaca McMillen, Breck, 8 g, 9 a

Pretty good for a middle school kid

She is an excellent player that already stands out when she's out there. Where did she play her "youth" hockey?

Dunno. I am guessing boys maybe? She does not seem afraid to get in there and fight for the puck in the game I saw her in recently.

Not many of these in the tourney I don't believe...

Hannah Brandt from WBL is one of the best in the state. I know she has been mentioned before in the 8th grader forum, but she is a 7th grader. She has well over 100 points this season as a U14A. HM will be lucky to have her next year.

No, you really can't. The road from 13 years old to 18 is too long to accurately predict any results.

I agree...some girls skate their fastest when they are young and actually get slower as they grow older and their bodies change, for example.

I do not think we should assume that someone who plays like a demon now will set th world on fire as a Junior or Senior.

It is almost not worth discussing.

Ok, I was just saying with the talent she has as a 7th grader, if it can continue to grow in any amount, she will make one of the state's finest as she grows older.

Interestingly part of the purpose of this thread, I think, is to track the young phenoms and see where their careers go from here. That may not always mean that they will be the next top player ever just because they were a standout in 7th, 8th, or even 9th grade. BIG changes happen for kids that year that they enter HS I believe. Suddenly, other things can start to be more important than they were before. Social life items can start to be more important than all the athletic things. This is just the way it is. Kids need to sort through this, and sometimes parents will find that pushing the athletics more just makes them rebel that much more against it.

It's a little confusing by this post was brought to the top from several years ago. It's talking about kids who are now entering their Jr. year, which is typically the make or break year for college recruiting. On a side note it sounds like close to a handful of these kids have committed to play college hockey.
