White bear lost to Mahtomedi 1-0 the other night. Mah. is not a very stong team this year. Maybe they had an off night.

Centennial is ranked a little to high IMO, but it is the first week. They lost 5-2 to Duluth East and 4-2 to Edina in scrimmages.

Duluth East A tied Stillwater 1-1, beat Centennial 5-2 and beat Prior Lake 7-4 in scrimmages. So far this weekend in a Duluth tournament they have beaten Eden Prairie 6-0 and Wayzata 8-1.

My guess is....in this next week's PWA top 20, there will be some shuffling of the teams. Not too sure of many new comers, or many that would drop out of the top 20. (I could be wrong there though).

Here are my guesses......

Big Movers UP!!! (4+ slots)
Lakeville North
Duluth Lakers
Burnsville

Teams that will slip down (4+ slots)
Wayzata
Eden Prairie
Lakeville South

Rhino-who had the off night WBL or Mahtomedi?

How can Mpls*Park even be rated the only team I see they beat on the scoreboard is Fairbault? Being close does not count. I am sure there are alot of teams out there that have close games with teams that are rated.

IMO Eden Prairie shouldn't be ranked that high in the top 20. Alot can change in two years, but their A Squirt team two years ago was a competetive team but by no means a top 10 team. Judging by the scrimmage scores I have seen and where they were two years ago, they very well could be middle of the pack in their district.

It is really tough to say anything about any of the teams until we are a couple of weeks into the season.

The rankings will probably be alot different after the Eden Prairie Tournament which takes place over Thanksgiving weekend.

The Field includes:

EP
Blaine
Maple Grove
Anoka
Lakeville South
Woodbury
Centennial
Rochester
Wayzata
Lakeville North
Chaska
Elk River
Eagan
Edina
White Bear Lake
Buffalo

All these teams are in the Eden Prairie tournament?

LowlyIQ:
I, actually, don't disagree with you in the least.
The reason I included Mpls*Park in the rankings was that the rankings board/committee put them in there last week at #15. I didn't think that they belonged there just yet, either. You are right close does not really count. I moved them down a slot to make room for Duluth Lakers up further in the Rankings.
I would be interested to see what your top 20 would be at this point in the season.

Yes:

All these teams are in the EP tournament.

It should be a great tournament!

First of all after the top ten there are probably 20 teams or more that can compete for the second top ten. If you have followed LPH every year once the regionals are over look how the teams change in the polls. In my opinion LPH and any other rating don't mean anything once the fat lady sings. But these teams are very good but things change. Good luck and keep this post and I bet it changes but who cares til it counts. People just need something to measure themselves.

1. Lakeville North
2. Eagan
3. Apple Valley
4. Duluth East
5. Duluth Lakers
6. Wayzata
7. Burnsville
8. Minnetonka
9. Stillwater
10. Eden Prairie

So.....me and Lowly swap out Edina and Stillwater.
FYI: Blaine just beat Stillwater 5-2, yesterday.

I know that Edina is 3-3-1, but they have beat some good teams and lost to some other very good teams.

It's all opinion.....

D16Dad, Elliot, etc....
Can you fill us "Southerners" in on some of the PWA teams from the north side of the state.
It seems that Grand Rapids and Roseau have very solid squads, based on some rankings. Any info on them? Any thing about other teams.
This is a good way for us "Southern Folk" to find out about the "Northern Boys."

Bemidji Pewees scrimmage Eagan and Warroad in Bemidji this weekend.

Blaine has 3 returning skaters from last seasons team. Their A Squirt team was above average last season but not the best in districts, and their B1 Peewee team was middle of the pack. It will be interesting to see where they are in a few weeks.

I wouldn't expect them to be in the top 5 teams in D10 this season. Rogers is the most talented team in D10 APW this year and they aren't in either top 20.

I will be curious to see how the northern half shakes out. I do not believe that Rapids will be as good as last year nor will Roseau. Of course both had very nice clubs last year. I did see Rapids in a scrimmage as they were completing tryouts in Brainerd. Rapids looked pretty good. Brainerd was in the first week of tryouts and played ok. Rapids is deeper. Brainerd has finished their tryouts and picked teams. They are not going to be terribly big , but will be quick and have some skilled players.

How is it that the Duluth Lakers fall off the rankings when they beat Edina, Eden Prairie, and Burnsville in their first three games/scrimmages?

Posted: Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:44 am
by SLP/SW Coach
They did NOT fall of the rankings.
The rankings listed here (Other than the first one posted on Page 1, which was the LPH Rankings) are either what personal perspective is....OR the first rankings from Minnesota Hockey Journal (What you are referring too).

If another note - I REMOVE Mpls*Park from my top 20 listing.
They do not deserve to be there right now, the way this team is playing, at this time.

I was referring to the Minnesota hockey journal above. Thanks for your reply.

If Bemidji pee-wee A can get a goalie to step-up they will be tough to beat.
They have big strong players and small crafty quick skaters that can score a lot of goals.
