Question: For those associations holding U14 try-outs for two teams - how many are waiting until after the high school try-outs before holding U14 try-outs?

My U14 = my JV, but I'm in a class A community.
I think it would be best to hold U14 tryouts directly following HS tryouts. Then you don't have the issue of kids leaving for HS after the fact like boys bantams have done for years. I think it would be easier to act than react if you wait but plan for two teams ice wise, etc. You hate to see a youth assn eat a teams worth of ice though too...
Also, if you wait, you will have the chance to pick up other U14's from communities that don't have this option and some of these kids don't know what they will do until after their HS TO. This may keep both your teams viable...

In my community the U14 try-outs have been held the week immediately before the High school tryouts for a number of years. It has proved to be very successful. It helps these younger players get ready for the high school tryouts. The U14A coach works with the high school coach during both tryouts. The day after the varsity and JV are named the U14A team is notified and start practice that weekend.

Sounds like a good setup to me. I assume the kids don't skate at all with the U14 during HS tryouts? Someone told me that kids can't do that by youth/MN H rules?
