Classy Moorhead

Even though I was pulling for Centennial I couldn't help but feel for Moorhead.

This is one of the finest programs in Minnesota and I hope their time comes soon. They have been unfortunate to have some outstanding teams at the same time as the Jefferson dynasty and this year when Centennial was so dominant.

Congratulations on a superb season Moorhead!

I thought I would bring this back to the front page. Videoscout and the other Spud backers will hopefully be able to see them hoist the first place trophy in the near future. Wonderful program!

Moorhead will surely be one of the favorites next year. With defensemen like Lee and Ammerman they will be a threat. Duluth East should also be good from the North. The metro will have EP, Centennial, WBL, Wayzata, AHA and a few others to contend as well.

The Sputniks showed great poise and class. There time will come and probably next year. The team is loaded and they have a reason to get started immediately. Look for Moorhead to be crowned 2005 Champs. Congratulations on a great season.

I agree the Spuds should be a talented team
next year, given that everyone stays!
I expect again there section will offer little resistance
to a state trip.

If Moorhead expects to be successful, win the
trny, they need to do more than schedule a couple token metro games at the end of the year.

Also they need to understand how to win. Hockeytape, I don't understand your comment about how Moorhead needs to understand how to win. Explain that one. I think if Moorhead had played ANYONE other than Centennial in the championship game, they would be champions now.

I agree

with Cities Spuds guy, Hockeytape needs to think about his comments a little bit. My guess is that he either wasn't on a very good high school hockey team, never played, or is a marginal coach. Moorhead is a solid program. They'll get theirs one of these times. You mean to say that if Stutz had just sieved on 2 dump-ins and Moorhead won, then you would consider them a great program? Come on dude. It takes a lot of bounces to win the thing. Look at 3 of their losses in championship games - 2 to the loaded Jags of the 90's and to Centennial who is solid.

CitiesSpuds Guy - you keep patrolling the airwaves for more garbahhhhggge like that. Out.

Moorhead has added Bloomington Jefferson to their schedule and the christmas tourny at the X. They will go to the X over chirstmas and then play WBL, Hill M., Jefferson, Centennail all at home.

By token I meant they don't play enough
teams in the metro area. I would like a Spud supporter to give me
a Moorhead team in the last 5 years that has won
a state high school, junior gold, bantam or peewee
championship.

In all cases they have the talent to get to the dance,
but just can't get it finished. I think your being unreasonable here! Moorhead had a GREAT team this year and it shouldn't be looked at as a negative to be # 2 in state, consider how many great teams didn't even get to the tourney, consider how it came down to # 1 vs #2.

Moorhead played the best they could after a grueling three days and got beat by #1 Cent. who only Edina was able to defeat early in the season.

In my opinion that was the best championship game I have seen in a loooong time , very exciting and had everyone on the edges of there seat.

I think the Slapshooter and V-Scout will be holding a championship trophy in their hands soon- Just glad my team was able to pull it off this year.

I don't think Moorhead could have scheduled a tougher end of season to prepare for playoffs , as already mentioned on a previous post, what more could they have done??

I don't even think playing in the Xcel tourney would have changed a thing- I seen how much teams progressed after that tourney which is held around Christmas. Case in point is look at how Duluth East beat Moorhead early in the season , then Moorhead owned them when it mattered at State- sure East made a valiant comeback, however Moorhead already had it in the bag. Look at the difference in teams there.

Maybe the wrong thread but have any of you looked at the Bantam A team? They are just as good as their High School. I believe they are ranked #1 in the state for Bantam A's. Some of these boys will be high School next year.

Moorhead owned East for all of 52 seconds, but thats all that mattered.

I wish my teams had the "problems" Moorhead has, 5 finals in 10 or so years, heck my teams can't get a win in the tournament let alone get to the finals, not since '89. 15 years is a long dry spell, and it doesn't look like rain down here anytime soon. Moorhead has produced consistant teams over a large number of years now, football, hockey, they have some nice athletes up there. I give them allot of credit for what they have done. Looking at the MAHA state tournaments it doesn't look like a dry spell is coming for them anytime soon either.

Lets just settle the score right here...Moorhead has a great squad the championship comes down to one game and they lose by a goal and by the way one could be 100 in a game like that lucky or unlucky. Centennial and Moorhead have probably the two most successful youth programs in the last 6 years. Add White Bear to the mix and there you have it. Cent/WBL v Moorhead in the 2005 state championship. Slapshooter you have been right on most of the season, but the Centennial guys never lost to that Moorhead squad at any age. But next years squad for Moorhead has never lost to Centennial. Should be interesting. Until next year. Watch out for Alex...lol.

Yes they may have a #1 ranking today but they still have to win the trny to be ranked number 1 at the end of the year.

Maybe, i'm missing something. My main point is Moorhead has had good and maybe even very good teams over the last 6 years at all levels. HOWEVER, they just cannot seem to get over the hump and win THE GAME whenever they get matched up against metro teams in the state championships.......

Why is that? They may lose by a goal or on a poerplay or run into a hot goalie. They still haven't shown the ability to win the big game.......Check out all of the
tournies over the last 5 to 6 years from Peewees thru
Varsity.....its a trend.....

Change

by bisketboy
I think it's because MHD changes the way they play in the state tourneys. All year they play 4 lines and when they get to the show they run 3 lines and maybe 2 towards the end of the game. It starts in PEE WEES at the A level. MHD's B teams
are always winning regionals and could possibly win state if they had a B state at the MAHA level.
