I started this thread becasue a discussion of the overtime games last night in District 6.<br><br>My understanding is that the teams go 5-5 in the 1st overtime; 4-4 in the 2nd; 3-3 in the 3rd; and so on and so forth. First am I right? Second, do you agree with that format? <br><br>I personally like a reply from "rabbittsr" on the other board, saying he prefers 4-4 for the overtime.<br><br>What does everyone think, not that we will be right or wrong, just for discusssion. <p></p><i></i>

The procdure you describe is the region procedure. Each district may adopt their own method.<br><br>D16 discussed it at length and decided to use it, because it was in the handbook (readily available).<br><br>The MN Hockey tournament committee and then the full board discussed it at length before adopting it. <br><br>It would be interesting to hear about how well it works.<br>Any stories to go along with other comments would be nice, also. Like I replyed before, you have already played three periods of 5 on 5 and did not determine a winner, why not jump right into 4 on 4, and use 4 on 4 until the winner is determined. <p></p><i></i>

In D6, you are right about the 5 on 5, than 4 on 4 and than 3 on 3 (each period being 5 minutes in length)...but you are wrong about the so on and so forth. After the end of the 3rd overtime, the WIN goes to the higher seed (no more hockey is played).<br><br>I think the format is fine but I would hate to see it come down to the higher seed getting the WIN in a game that has completed 3 OT periods. It probably doesn't happen often but it seems like there could be a better way to end it. <p></p><i></i>

Just heard that in D2, at least in the play-in games, if the game is tied at the end of regulation that the higher seed gets the win.<br>Not sure if this is all levels, but the person I heard from, their son play PWB2....either way .... In my opinion that is a bunch of BS. <p></p><i></i>

I HATE using shootouts to determine a winner, but I would rather see one than the win going to the higher seed. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. <p></p><i></i>

I would flip if I was a player, coach, or fan of a team that played their butts off for 3 regulation periods and 3 overtime periods only to be told that - YOU LOSE, because they are seeded higher. To me that makes absolutley NO sense. <br><br>Hockey is a game. The outcome is should be decided by those whom play the game. <br><br>In the Wisconsin Pee Wee State last year one team played 2 games of 5 overtimes. Each overtime was 8 minutes stop time. The players decided the outcome.<br> <p></p><i></i>

NO Shootouts!<br>Play it out is a must! Especially when it this time of the year. <br>The kids played too hard and it would be SAD to be told you LOSS because you are the lower seed when it ended in a tie. That TEAM is basicly BEHIND at the start of the game because it was tie zero to zero before the game started. OUCH!<br>Some kids played in Wisconsin Tournament this year and the rule they had at the end of a game was the last five players on the ice where your shooters. The only time I think a shootout would be good is for a region or state tournament game that does not have an affect on a team representing in the championship game (i.e.: losers bracket, consolation, 3rd place). What if you have a game go 6 OT's so the championship game is delayed that long? Play your two or three OT's, but then have a shootout to end it.<br><br>As for districts, at least they go 3 OT's before it goes to the high seed. Back in the 80s, you went 5 minutes, and then it went to the high seed after that. At least there is ample time for the lower seed to score a goal with 3 OT's. Unfair, perhaps.....but not as bad as it could be. <p></p><i></i>

It should never just go to the higher seed. It should be played out until there is a winner. I only said a shootout becasuse that is better than just giving the game to the higher seed. <p></p><i></i>

It is play offs play until there is a winner, In our regular tournaments at Johnson we do it the old fashion way you "EARN IT". <p></p><i></i>

In district 11, the first OT is 10 min. If it is not decided, the teams resurface and then play a 4 on 4 5 min ot. After that i dont know. <p></p><i></i>

I think it's ridiculous to give it to the higher seed. If that's the case, and we're in the final overtime playing 3 on 3 and I'm the higher seed, I can just sit back, not take any chances on offense and concentrate on defense. At least make it something that is determined on the ice, such as shots on goal or fewer penalty minutes. <br><br>I know in some invitational tournaments, after the second overtime they go to 3-on-3, no goalie. NOt sure I'd like to see that, but that's another possibility. <p></p><i></i>

In championship games, D10 plays 5 on 5 until a winner is determined. The 2004 PW A game went 5 OT's (first game of the morning) Followed by two other OT games. The schedule at Anoka was running almost 3 hours behind by the end of the day. Good stuff. <br><br> <p></p><i></i>
