Sorry Bob, you're never gonna get it right. For you to please them your list would have to be at least 26 pages long.

If there's a bigger musical nerd than me in this forum prove it. In non-numerical order:

-Hank Williams Sr.- Long Gone Lonesome Blues: The guy is such a loser that he can't even drown himself because the river's gone dry. How country is that!

-Jason and the Scorchers-White Lies: She's cheating on you AND lying about it. I'd be upset.

-Steve Earle-Someday: Earle has a lot of great songs, but this one about being stuck in a small town resonates the most with me.

-The Byrds-Hickory Wind: This is from "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" the lone Byrds album Gram Parsons appeared on and this wistful, poignant song written and sung by Parsons is the best one on the album.

-George Jones-He Stopped Loving Her Today: Only George Jones could pull this song off without making it too over the top or melodramatic.

-Johnny Cash-Folsom Prison Blues: "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die." Gangsta country?

-Lucinda Williams-Car Wheels on a Gravel Road: Beautiful, evocative song, anyone who lives in Minnesota knows the sound of car wheels on a gravel road.

That's all I have time to come up with for now.

You Never Even Called Me By My Name- David Allen Coe, after all with the last verse it is "the perfect country song".
