Bigroy.....
With all the kids from Little Falls I can't believe they didn't make your top 10 in the State list. Keep Festler, but get rid of the other two. Ypu seem to be a little strong on Roseau kids too. Thielen from Moorhead is to small. He will show up against the likes of Detroit Lakes and Bemidji, but will be nowhere to be found against good competition. I do like your support of all the Northern kids.

bigcurve, Way too many. I know of a couple of programs that have really been hit hard by the loss of their Bantams and the kids are playing JV. I dont know what the high schools are thinking.

I guess if it is the best thing for the player, it's OK. But most cases players move up due to numbers, not ability. That is a scary trend that seems to be growing each season in the smaller venues.

As everyone on this board knows, Hockey is a tough nosed sport. Bantam aged players, not prepared for that jump many times go for the wrong reasons. Both the HS and youth programs suffer when that happens.

bantams in high school

bigcurve, I thnk we need to get away from the concern or debate being centered on the individual. We need to address the broader issues on this subject.

JV vs Bantam A's for a kid. We dont need to go there.

Both have their benefits and no 9th grader is going to be hurt by playing bantam As. But what about the Bantams that are left to pick up the pieces after high schols take a handful of top 9th graders. Kids are shuffeled around and end up on teams that they shouldnt be on. Coaches have to start over with a new team like it was Oct 15.The good solid players do not have the experienced top players to play with and practice with. For what? That next big JV win?

I think they call that "shooting yourself in the foot." Or how about "biting the hand that feeds you" ?

I agree 100%. The last part of my comments referenced both programs being hurt. I didn't clearly spell it out, but that is what I meant.

Both parts of the discussion seem important. Leadership at each level should be focused on what is best for the player, and teams.

More often than not, a program that is always dipping down to the Bantam pool is a sign of a program short on numbers or a shortage of skilled upper classmen.
You will always have the argument that Jonnie Superstar needs to be challenged and playing another year of Bantams will not be the best for his development. most cases jonnie will be just fine with another year of bantams. the decision is quite simple when you compare the length of season and practice to game ratio.

Check out John Stampohar (90 dob) second year bantam playing for Hibbing. 6'3" 180 lbs ,plays both ends of the rink. A big time threat on off. or def. I would not care to go into the corner with this kid. He could definitely be playing at the high school level, but opted to stay with the bantams. I'm sure that decision wont hurt him, but you players opposing him, please keep your heads up, or suffer the consequence.

Which EGF goalie was he Saturday? The one who let three out of the first five shots in against Warroad including a laser from the center red line that bent the goalie's catching mitt over and flopped in the net or the one who gave up 7 in a running time third in a 18 - 1 blowout?.....<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... smokin.gif ALT=":smokin">

Both Jared Festler and Luke Jorgensen of Little Falls currently play on the varsity second line. Tyler Swoboda (Little Falls) attends Pierz HS so he plays on the Brainerd JV team. LF still has some good Bantams(1st year) Ben Hanowski, Andrew Lange and Mike Sperl (goalie).
