Try outs are sometime in May and the actual tournament is the first full week in June after schools out.

You need to be nominated by your coach, but my understanding is that coaches are encouraged to recommend many of their Juniors that are varsity level material. Contact your coach for more info. I don't know where things are at tryout wise yet. I haven't heard anything about these yet.

GHS is right about nominations, and the invitations haven't been mailed yet to my knowledge. Usually get them by end of March.

Try-outs are the weekends a held the weekends after Easter and prior to Mothers day. The Freshman/Sophmore camp try-outs are the same weekends.

The actual tourney is June 13-16th.

Freshman/Sophomore Camp is the week of June 25th-30th.

Thanks

My daughter's high school coach is new to girls' hockey and does not know about the Junior Festival. Does anyone know who he can contact to get information about making nominations?

Who qualifies for this camp? Do you have to be a current freshman/sophmore or going into your freshman/sophmore year. THANKS!

Current Fr/So. Current 7th-8th & 11th-12th not eligible. Also - non MSHSL kids aren't eligible either I believe. Meaning, if you play for the T-Breds or SSM you're out of luck.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 3/21/06 11:15 am

Teams have a practice today, and games start tomorrow. Should be a fun tournament with about a 1 1/2 teams from out of state.

Any updates on how it went today? Who looked good who didn't? Any surprises? Which college coaches were there?

I didn't see any of Jr Fest (some of us have to work!) but I'm sure it went/is going well. A couple notes semi-related...

A stunning EIGHT (8) - yes I said 8 - kids from Holy Angels are in the Junior Fest this year. That's quite a good number form one school, and I look for them to make another run at State next year with the help of these players as well as some others that are quite good.

Some may remember a quite good AAA team from the past few years called the MN Magik coached by Edina's Mark Stephan. That Magik squad has a good share of former players on the Junior fest rosters this week. I'm sure other AAA programs are well represented as well, but the core of the Magik was this "89"/junior class that stuck together for quite some time starting as a very young AAA team some years ago.

I know that there are likely many college coaches in town for the festival, but it was nice to see Steven's Point coach Idalski along with some others come into town to watch the practices and also take the time to catch some of the South Metro Elite League at Wakota last night. The Steven's Pt team was well represented on a team that played last night, including some recent grads, current players, and incoming recruits.

Keep in mind that all of those players from Holy Angels come from other communities. It is not as though one community is putting 8 people in the festivel. All that it means is that the AHA coaches have done a good job of recruiting talented players to their program.

The sad thing is that all of the youth coaches who invested so much time in giving there all for these girls don't get the public recognition for working to develop talented hockey players.

It's a thankless job. Hopefully all those instrumental in the players development can take great satisfaction in seeing those players progress successfully.
