I don't understand the Darwitz/Wendell situation. Their in the Olympics, right? But can they come back to the Gophers afterward?
"Dream as if you'll live forever; Live as if you'll die today." --James Dean

Wendell cannot return. She has signed a couple endorsement deals. I believe Darwitz has said she will not return to the Gophers

Wendell lost her remaining eligibility by signing a contract with professional agency...sports marketing agency I believe (I think ex North Star Brian Lawton is her agent) thus cannot play. Darwitz has said she is returning to attend classes and obtain her degree but will not play / use her last year of eligibility. I'd bet Natalie signs with a pro agent at some point in the not too distant future as well (for marketing / endorsements etc.).

It was also announced that Krissy has signed to play with a Canadian based NWHL team...can't remember which team. I had thought it would be nice if she and others would eventually move on and play for the Whitecaps in the WWHL and lend that team / league some credibility, local marketability etc. I think that would have enhanced the chances of long term success for both the Whitecaps and the upstart WWHL.

I too was disappointed to here she would be playing for the Canadian team I believe it is the Oakville Ice. Her playing with the IceCaps would have been a huge booster. Rumour has it Ashley Riggs is going to be playing next season with a team in this league.

Really, that would be great. I'm a little surprised tho, she was just a frosh (Niagara I believe) in 2004-05 wasn't she? Guess that means she's not returning to Niagara? Their loss...terrific player.

Edited by: <A HREF=

SPEECHLESS. I cannot imagine how the USA women are feeling...they must be so beyond upset. Sweden's goalie rocked and USA women did not finish their chances when they were there. <img src=

Did you see the Pen Shot do-over (SW G left crease early)? Totaly had the SW Goalie beat and puck flipped over stick... WOW...

I didn't see the whole game, so can't comment on regulation play...

There were a couple chances like that in regulation where the USA gals did not finish according to friend on a phone that was watching. She is a UMD fan so excited that the Swedish goalie may be going there. Curious to see taped game when I get home...work interfered with my access to TV.

I just caught the shootout; surprised at how inept the US players looked in the shootout. Disappointing not to see them play Canada.

Did anyone else notice a number of shooters from both teams come in wide from right to left as you're looking at the net and then seemingly not even get any sort of quality shot/move off???

I give much credit to the Goalies for this, but at the same time one should always get a shot/chance off!

I think that SW G was constantly guessing forehand, and didn't see anyone try to go backhand, etc. except for the do-over PS and then we couldn't finish...

Also, the neatest move I saw was the one that was 1st. The SW player tried a finesse move (ala 1994 Forsberg they said I think) and it nearly worked but couldn't finish either...

I see that this all had led to some calling for Smith's resignation. I think that's an overreaction personally...

disappointing to see one of mn star's acting like a spoiled brat instead of taking some responsibility in the teams and her play. my respect for her is now less than zero..

Yeah, a few players made comments afterwards I didn't think much of. One commented something along the lines of maybe the coaches got what they deserved. If she felt the coaches were so much at fault, or responsible for assembling a less than ultimate team beforehand why didn't she walk and make room for somebody who wanted to be there.

After the disappointing showing by Team USA in the Olympic tournament, there has been much discussion of and sounding off on the need for a change in direction (new coach) for team USA. A considerable number of fans have mentioned who would be the best replacement for Ben Smith (in their minds). My personal opinion is UW's Mark Johnson is the right guy for the job...although many are specifically calling for, or suggesting the replacement should be a woman. I've always liked the way Johnson's Badger teams played the game...seems to routinely coach and get a total team game from his players, and almost always get the best results his players talents can achieve. He has coached teams without a great deal of talent and turned them into overachievers...and his teams of late, with talented players are most often very tough to beat.
