Fewest Goals Allowed in a Season

Ep is on the brink of breaking this. 19 is the record by SSP in the late 90's (1997-8 or 8-9 I believe). This included 31 games I believe, and is counted through sections and state.

I believe EP has allowed 11 through yesterday, so they have 7 goals to give to hold the record.

I think they can do it, but with the tough section and an always challenging AA state, you just don't know. And, of course, I need to put in the disclaimer that they have to make it to state first. In section 6 you can't take anything for granted, but I do believe they are the frontrunner.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/23/06 1:54 pm

Eden Prairie 4
Eagan 3

Eagan went up 3-1 before Eden Prairie pulled their starting goalie in the 2nd period. Score was tied 3-3 late into the 3rd before Eden Prairie scored the winner. Eagan pulled there goalie with a little over a minute to go and applied good pressure but was unable to score the equalizer.

Most goals scored on EP this year.

Great job by Grogan in the net for Eagan.

Go Cats!

There is some debate starting about how this record should be approached as far as challenging with a "modern era" team (read as 17 minute periods).

The debate centers around how we define "games" and "seasons."

Some would argue that all EP has to do is play the same number of minutes as SSP did with less goals allowed. (i.e. that they nearly have already broken the record due to longer periods even before playoffs/state start).

Some would argue that a "game" is a "game" is a "game" no matter if the "periods" are now longer, and thus a "season" record is for the season, no matter if you play longer periods, more games, etc.

Like the "*" in Baseball Homerun records due to length of season changes, I think this is something that is debatable as well.

One key concern that I've heard relative to the "minutes" consideration vs. "season" is that it doesn't seem fair - for one - to allow EP to set the record without having to take top level section & state competition into consideration. Maybe more fair is to eliminate the last 6 minutes of every game and any goals they allow during that period all season long...

Is it by "Minutes" and can we punish SSP or EP for playing in a different "era?" or is it by "season?" - that's the question.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 1/25/06 11:46 am

I believe this is a tie as of today.

Only 2 goals allowed by EP in Section 6 tourney brings their total to 19 heading into state.

ghs,

one could mention minutes played as one could mention SOS as well. comparison's will not settle anything as it was two completely different years vs. different teams etc....

but this doesn't matter because it is an incredible accomplishment regardless of year.
