Whats your thoughts on Dads coaching there daughters at the High School Level..Good-Bad-Added Pressure???? <p></p><i></i>

I coached my daughter Johanna for her entire youth and high school years. It was a great experience for her and I, with a lot of quality time. I also watched as our head coach and another assistant coached their daughters as well. The only thing you need to watch for is parent discontent for your daughters playing time verses theirs. <br>I didn't experience that much because of her level of play and it's the position with the fewest numbers competing for time. <p></p><i></i>

I agree with Cloquet - it's all about your daughter's playing time I think. It helps tremendously when they are a top caliber player as then it's easily justifiable when they play. When the kid is a questionable player, then every time they play it's b/c "dad's the coach" etc. Which usually those kids have it the worst as "dad" a.k.a "coach" is usually harder on their kid than anyone else, so they have to really earn the opportunity.<br><br>I coached my sister the first year I was a HS Girls Coach, and that was hard. She was an 8th grader, of good ability, but we had many upper classmen that had played before etc. So, a little criticism there I guess. Kind of like coaching your daughter - family ties I mean. She transfered out of my program the next year!<br><br>I can only think of 2 programs where daughters are playing for dads next year - Keys at CDH & Stephan at Edina. Am I missing any others??? <p></p><i></i>

Casey McMullen at the Novas is coached by her dad, Kevin McMullen; although he's an assistant coach, he does a significant portion of the "on ice" coaching. I caoched my sister her first year of HS hockey and my first year as a girls HS coach. Lots of challenges in this as the worry about the favoritism perception, and she transfered before the next year started! <p></p><i></i>
