It would appear that this section is there for the taking for Mayo/Lourdes. But its just not possible to predict how Lakeville North matches up with M/L, so we'll just have to wait. I'd have to say though, that M/L just played a great high level, fast-paced, intense game with Blake and despite the loss, it truly was an evenly matched contest. If M/L brings that intensity to the section tournament, they should win.

Whoever's in the #4 vs. #5 game should be a good matchup. Right now, KRACH says Roch JM/C vs. Winona, but they play the last game of the year on Feb. 7th. If Owatonna is in there instead, it should still be a knock-down, dragout. Unfortunately, the current #6 & #7 teams are overmatched.

Fairmont and Dodge County wouldn't even be in AA if it weren't for the wrestling coaches whining about the enrollment/co-op rules last spring and ramrodding that new rule through.

I hope that gets fixed for next year so that teams are playing equal competition in the post-season. We don't need any 15-0 quarterfinal games.

I would hope that teams have better respect than that to blow someone out 15-0... maybe just 10

Hey #13
10 or 15...what's the difference? Most girls like your team can't run it up anyway! You might be playing #8 in section 1AA...you still won't score 5 goals. All though, I picked you to win 1AA...You need to play a flawless game! Stay out of the BOX! I see the box scores.

Ha, yeah we sometimes have a problem with penalties...some girls are hot-heads.. I'm hoping they will learn to control themselves otherwise we're screwed - especially with the refs they have at Owatonna. HHH maybe you are familiar with them?

the funny thing about that is...is that maybe you won't be playing the #8 team. maybe you will play the #6......

You're right "Ya Mon", there is no guarentee on who we play at all. That's why we're preparing for it all.

We'll find out Sunday!

No suprises on the seedings - just how we all expected.

That is crazy for Roch JM/C and Winona!

Those two games will be very intense for the both of em! Tuesday's game will form many grudges that will make it very interesting to see how it plays out on Friday.

How good is that Mayo/Lourdes team? I heard from a friend of mine that they got some good players? He said that Brittany Erickson was the Best overall player in all of the zones? Any Feedback?

Yes, Brit Erickson is a really good player. But one of the best things you could say about this team is that they have a balance of really good players. There's no one star, but the talent level is pretty high, pretty deep.

Quarterfinals

Friday night's result:

Lakeville North 11
Fairmont 0

In the middle of the second the score was 10-0 with 52 shots on net. From then on our coach ordered us to play keep-away and absolutely no shots on net. The one player allowed to shoot was a girl with no goals on the season, so finally in the 3rd she got her goal. The game ended with only 5 more shots on net in the period and a half of keep-away.

I feel it necessary to expose a player on Fairmont that is a prime example of a "good player stuck on a not so good team". I am unaware of her name, but she players forward and is #15. She is a freshman and has a lot of potential. With the right surroundings, she can really thrive. Props to her.

Next game: VALENTINES DAY SPECIAL!

Mayo/Lourdes defeated JM/Century with no difficulty. I believe the score was 5-2? I am not positive because I was in the locker room at the end of the game, but SEHockeyDad, can you verify that score for me?

In the second semifinal, Owatonna upset Lakeville North 7-5 with an empty net. We came out flat footed and could never take the lead. Owatonna played with a lot of heart and played one of their best games all year. Props to them for never quitting. Unfortunately for my team, we just couldn't get it together until the end of every period, so my hockey career ended on a suprising note.

Best of luck to both teams in the final and to whomever wins, please do section 1AA some justice in the state tournament

Signing off

Lauren Haverly
#13
Defense
Lakeville North Panthers

Yes, it was 5-2 Mayo/Lourdes. Some frustration made it chippy and messy at the end and that was too bad. The season and many hockey careers ended on a less-than-classy note, and while I know the refs just wanted to keep the clock moving and get it over with, they could have easily kept it under control. No props for the refs. Almost all the seniors on JM/Century were teammates of the Mayo/Lourdes girls on some great youth teams. Good luck to all those young ladies and thanks for some great memories.

Same goes for you, gopherbabe. Cherish your hockey years. You had a good run.

Wrapped up today, Roch M/L over Owatonna 3-1. In just about 1 1/2 weeks, Owatonna became a much better team and really played a couple of good section tournament games. Congrats to the Rochester M/L girls! See ya at state.
